  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Brand new 2009 Genesis for $4000 less than 2010. Is it worth it?

I have decided to buy a new Genesis by the end of the month. I was on the Hyundai circle site finding dealers and I ended up finding one with a few 2009s left. I am looking at a V8 with Tech and this dealer's 2009 is $4000 less than the best price I can get for a 2010. I had decided last fall to wait for 2010s and not buy a 2009 and now I am back to the same place. I am trying to decide if the auto brake hold, adaptive cruise control, and future resale value are worth the extra $4000.

It really depends on how long you intend to keep the car. If your planning to keep it for 6 years or more, get the 09, as resales between the 09 and 10 won't be that much. Also, ask yourself if you really need or will use those 2 options. Do your like controlling your car experience or do you want the car pampering you. Remember too, a year from now, when the "honeymoon" with the car is over, you'll probably have many good uses for that $4000;) Good luck.

$4000 off sticker? I would see how much of a deep discount a few dealers will do on a new 2010 and see then what the price separation is - then make your decision. I have seen steep discount on 2010's already.

I would negotiate the hell out of a 2009 right about now. You can pick up 4.6 2010's for around $37500 from what I gather on this site. I would think 2009's would be going for $34/$35K

It also depends on how your paying and negotiating.

I can get the 2009 for 35k and the 2010 for 39k. There is no 1500 rebate in my area so I cannot get the 37.5k deal unless I fly somewhere and drive 10 hours back.

I would drive them both and then decide. I have heard the suspension changed in 2010. They might drive differently.

All other things equal, if you plan to keep the car long term, the 2009 is a better deal.

Or wait for the 2011's to come out, and let that 2009 discounting trickle to the 2010 model.

Drive the 09 - if you are happy with it, I'd get it - I don't think any of the '10 changes are worth $4k.

A '10 is automatically worth more in resale than an '09, even if they have the same miles.

I would go with the 2010.

Bought a new 2009 in May. Dealer discounted it 5k then I got them to give me $300 more on our trade. love the car

Get the car you want PERIOD! - After 2 weeks the price of the car will be irrelevant. ---- Just buy the car you want and forget about price!

What he said.

Get the car you want! Personally, I would get the '10

Probably not worth $4K more, though

Yes, year to year resale is basically ~$1k - not a big difference. Plus, buying an 09 now means selling it as a low-mile car later, if you even care about resale.

Cars depreciate - thats a fact - the question is, is there anything about the 10 that you think makes that $4k difference worth buying? You'll need to drive both cars and decide for yourself.

From a purely financial standpoint, it depends on how long you intend to keep the car. In the shorter term a year newer car may fetch enough more on the used market to easily make up for the difference in the purchase price. If you keep it longer, a year difference in age will make less of a difference in resale value.

Interesting, I am in the same predicament.

Except the 09 v8 TekPkg is offered to me for ~$36K before taxes, ttl, etc
AFTER my trade in (they are giving me $3K for my car) and taxes, etc the out of door price is theorically $35K.

I guess I'll have to see the manufactured date to verify if at least it received the so called mid year suspension tweek or "upgrade".

Still don't know what I am going to do.

If guided cruise control and electric brake are essential to you than get the 2010.

If it were me, the V8 is more important so I would go with the 2009 over the two extras mentioned above. Check the build date on the 2009 to confirm suspension. Even if the build date is before the fix and you like the way it rides don't get swayed by what other people say on this forum. Ultimately it depends on how you feel when driving.
