  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi Folks.

Just picked up a '15 sedan with the Signature package and 35k miles. Opened the hood today to check fluids and noticed the intake silencer is broken where it mounts someplace below the engine cover?
I know a lot of guys remove this anyway, but for the sake of having everything functional and unbroken - what should I do to get this fixed? Never had a CPO vehicle before (they gave me bumper to bumper for 10/100)... do I just call the dealer and say Hey, it looks like something is broken under the hood? Wouldn't want it vibrating around and bouncing off the injector connectors and wires underneath it, right? Mind you, the dealer I purchased from is 90 minutes away... maybe call a closer one and see what they say? I'm guessing this is obviously a defective part in the manufacturing process, assuming a technician never leaned on it with his whole body, it shouldn't break from normal use and vibration?

I cannot think of how it would be defective in manufacture. I can think of a bunch of ways someone broke it. Perhaps the original owner removed and and broke it putting it back in place. Perhaps the dealer had to do something and broke it. No, it should no break from vibration in normal use, but the fact it is broken does not mean defective.

The original owner was 60-something, I doubt he did anything to it, if he even knew where the hood release was. If a technician never noted it as broken, as far as I'm concerned it's "defective" and broke on its own, right? Nothing some JB-Weld Plastic wouldn't fix but... if I can get a free one, why not?

I'm 70-something an not only can open the hood, I know how and do things there. Ignorance noted.

The dealer will determine if it is defective, you don't get to make the rules.

Thanks, Ed. Being partially Jewish myself, I can say that 90% of 60-something-year old Jews are not opening the hood of a car so the chances are good it never happened. Working in Highway Administration, I can say that a good 50% of all people of all ages and backgrounds I come across can't find the hood release button in their vehicle, let alone do they even know if they have a spare tire.

Sorry you woke up on the wrong side of the bed today, I was looking for some friendly advice on how to approach the dealer, not admonishment, insult and attitude.

Its not about the wrong side of the bed. You like to stereotype. So now that you have insulted all seniors and Jews any other group you would like to cover?

It’s not about getting up on the wrong side of the bed. You like to stereotype. So now that you’ve insulted seniors and Jews, any other group you would like to cover?

It's only an insult if you see it as an insult. If you're 60 years old leasing a car, and perhaps a successful Jewish businessman, you're paying someone to look under the hood, you ain't doing it yourself. You guys need a sense of humor. Why do you have to take it in a negative light? Stereotypes are fun if you can handle them. You'd think some 70 year old men wouldn't be so progressive. Are you this stiff all the time? I've owned quite a few BMWs and I thought the Bimmer crowd was tough... They don't hold a candle to this forum!

What are you guys supporting as supporting members? The right to bully newcomers? How about being useful in your replies... that's kinda what a forum is about. You guys are way off topic and doing nothing to steer the conversation back to where it belongs.

You are completely out your mind. If you are talking about 85 years old, then maybe. Whether or not 50% of drivers know where the hood release is, has nothing to do with age.

Then to claim that you were insulted is absolutely unbelievable.

Are you sure you got a bumper to bumper for 10/100, or just the 10/100 powertrain warranty restored? That is what the CPO does, restore the 10/100 powertrain warranty that is only available to original owners. They would have had to give you a separate "CPO Wrap" extended warranty for the bumper to bumper coverage past 5/60.

Then don't insult every one over 60 and you may get better results. Quite a few of us here are in that bracket. If I was the dealer, in the interests of customer satisfaction I'd repair or replace it. If you come in arrogant and try to blame it on a defect that is not there, I'd send you on your way.

I woke up the same side as always. I don't get any better.

I think I'm going to like you in the long term Ed. Thanks for that answer, that's what I was hoping to hear. I'm not arrogantly trying to blame it on a defect, but I also don't want to give them the impression that I broke it. I worked for Lexus when I was younger and they always tried to blame these sorts of problems on the customer. I wasn't sure how Hyundai handled these things.

Yes, to the man who asked about bumper to bumper for 10/100. In their preferred package in financing they extended the bumper to bumper to 10 / 100 plus roadside for the same amount of time. And GAP coverage. They specifically pointed out that this will cover all the electronics in the car and all.
