Brought home the R-Spec!

That is correct. Sorry to be the spoiler! They were able to get another allocation right away after selling to me. Looking on the bright side - you received a better deal than I did! Not that mine was bad - I am very happy with my deal - they treated me right so far and I received a very competitive price considering the additional transport.

Cheers,
Newman

I'll be getting my service there - so we'll see. I had some mixed feelings with some of SMH's salespeople after looking at the 2011 and deciding to wait for the 2012. The salesman actually said "You don't need to make up an excuse not to buy this car."

I guess I'll feel vindicated walking in there with the R-Spec for service ;)

Glad to see that the car is going to a kind and loving home! When I called and asked if they'd let me test drive it before sending it to the horrible out of state guy stealing cars from hardworking Midwesterners (this was before I knew you of course!) they said absolutely not. They're watching out for you! I'll actually be there Saturday for an early oil change.

And finally, one of the reasons that the Hyundai luxury cars remain such a wonderful bargain is that the dealerships have not caught up with the quality coming from the factory.

There's no possible way for me to have said it better myself.

:-D Hopefully I can be thought of as an honorary midwesterner seeing as I was born in Michigan and spent the previous seven years there. And I am very glad to hear that they are looking our for my vehicle! The silver lining to having to wait so long for my car is that I will be the only driver. In a way, I wish I could require the dealership to push the car rather than drive it but that would just be silly.

Cheers,
Newman

Honorary Midwesterner status approved. I'm actually from the south and have only lived in KC for less than five years, but I also lived in Indiana during law school so I guess that counts as time spent as a Midwesterner.

And as far as drivers, just you, the guys at the factory, the guys loading it at the docks in Korea, the guys unloading it at the docks here in the US, the guys putting it on the car carrier sending it to KC, the guys in the SMH service center, and the guy loading unloading on the other end ;)

You've got it - it's not really needed just yet. The clay bars will come in after the paint starts to attract contaminants that will need to be removed. In a perfect world, you wouldn't need this at all if you kept the car clean enough. Like clay, polish is needed to help restore the luster and shine - no reason to restore what is, to this point, unblemished.

Trotti, i used the meg's ultimate polish one day, in a garage, and the difference betwen the two panels was startling to say the least. If you get bored one day, hit a panel (or half the hood/trunk, wherever) with M.U.P. and a LC CCS green pad and you will be hooked lol..

i forgot who inquired about the meg's ultimate compound earlier, i know you asked Trotti but imo (i'm fanatical with my vehicles) the meg's UC overrides the claybar. if you're gotten to the point where you have to use the megs UC on a panel, there's no need to clay before or after as the compound goes deeper than clay. clay just removes contaminants from the paint surface, things that are trying to bond to the clear. hope that helps (clay = sap, things that bonded but did not penetrate.... meg's UC = things that have penetrated the clear [ ie. water spots, bird sh*t, etc]).

Why'd you tell me that? I don't know if I want to be hooked on yet another pricey car product! It's definitely an addiction.

my only mistake was not having my camera handy when i tried it.. it's ridiculous. the polish just adds that "wet" look to the paint that once you witness it you will want to maintain lol..

don't get me wrong, car was shin before, but the polish makes it "liquid"
this was like crack, car hasn't seen rain since the last polishing it looks so good, we take my new F150 everywhere lol

here's the pads if you didn't know what they looked like. the green one is the polish pad (at least for me) they're great because they hold the product in the little dimples (those dimples are closed cell foam, non absorbing). they're awesome, got them from autogeek.net

tonygxp those pics of your car are fantastic! I don't need another vice but after seeing those photos I'm ready to buy some lc pads and Mcguires...here we go!

I haven't yet owned any Hyundai products so I can't speak to this with any authority, but if Hyundai works like most other manufacturers you should be able to take it to any dealer. The dealer just bills the manufacturer for warranty work and gets reimbursed so it's no skin off their nose. Besides, the service department is usually a significant profit center so if they're forward looking they're going to work to get your business.

When it comes to scratches and blemishes on the finish and trim on a brand new car most dealers will not work on the car if it was not purchased from them as the new car warranty does not always cover these problems and the dealer may have to absorb the cost, the reason being in most cases once the car has left the lot they do not know what happened to the car. That is why the dealers are instructed to find these problems during the PDI. That is why I instructed the OP to notify the dealer he purchased the car from just in case the local dealer refused to correct the problem. Regular warranty work is different and the car can be serviced by any dealer of that make or model. The wheel issue may not be a problem but the spots on the molding could be in a dealers eyes questionable . I have seen some dealers where a car was not purchased from them go ahead and correct these problem and I have seen some dealers send people back to the dealer where the car was purchased.

Really great info everyone! Until I got onto this site I did not even know what a clay bar was lol. I see someone mentioned autogeek.com. On that site they have this product listed below and I am curious if anyone had tried it yet and their thoughts.

I actually have it in my basement now with a clay bar and detailer spray etc. Now just awaiting the local dealer to get in my car I'm looking for. Sounds amazing anyway and I can't wait to use it. It seems like such a small tube but the dude on the site said there is enough for 1 and a 1/2 cars. Well see...

Damn tonygxp, your car looks friggin' awesome. I miss having a black car, while at the same time I don't :-).

When I talked to Michael Ball at Shawnee Mission Hyundai in Kansas City (after finding them through a cars.com search and contacting them via instant message) I indicated to him the following: 1) That I wanted a Black R-Spec, 2)That I was educated and did not expect to pay sticker, 3) That I understand that they are in business to make money and that they need to turn a profit as well, 4) and finally, that like them I am a very busy person and wanted to lock in a deal quickly so as to respect both of our times.

Michael returned to me after a couple of hours with a very fair offer (over invoice, below sticker and that included tinting, re-badging and transportation to my home in SoCal). We confirmed the deal and now I am simply waiting for delivery. According to my latest information the car should be at that dealership soon. They also have another allocation from Hyundai as they were able to put the car in my name whilst it was still at the dock.

Newman - any word on when you're receiving your car? I'm going to be at SMH Saturday for an oil change, I can take your car out for a spin if you'd like and make sure they've delivered a quality product ;)

Funny guy!

So I talked to the dealership yesterday. They indicated that unlike what they usually experience, there have been delays in receiving many Hyundai's. However, they indicate that the car is in KS at the train depot and that they expect it to arrive today or tomorrow. Therefore there is a good chance that it will actually be at the dealership when you get there.... so paws off and drive your own! :-)

Seriously though, I would be interested to know if you see it there. I love the idea of a fellow forum member watching out for my car when I am 2K miles away.

Cheers!

I need to check at my dealer for the 12's. I noticed today a brand new shipment of the new Accent hatchbacks on their backlot - who knows... maybe there were a couple of Genny's.

MUST TEST DRIVE R-SPEC...

I notice that my largest local SoCal dealer FINALLY shows a single V-8 in their inventory. I have no idea if they have actually received it as they only show stock photos.

Good luck Ruissimo!

Congratulations! Returned my 09 4.6 April 1 when the lease was up. Wanted to wait for the Equus but when i drove it with the 4.6 i was left wanting more. Didn't feel substantially better than my Genesis. Finally got to drive an R-Spec yesterday and was blown away by the amazing engine. The ride was great and the car was quieter than my 09. Still wanting to have the electronics updated. New interface for Iphone, improve nave graphics etc. This has however sparked my interest again with the Equus when the 5.0 arrives. Does anyone know when the Equus with the 5.0 is due to be available? Would appreciate any information.

Brand new to the forum. Considering trading my Ridgeline in and getting an R-Spec. Wanted to know from all you V-8'ers if you have chosen the R-Spec - why? If you decided to go with regular V-8 - why? Something I haven't seen discussed here is whether the R-Spec might hold it's value a little better due to it's rarity. On the face of it, to me it's like 2K difference and it seems like a lot of value for that 2K.

I definitely agree that there's a lot of value for the $2k - although I'm not sure how much more it will command than the 4.6s several years from now. For future models the 4.6 will be phased out entirely and the 5.0 will be the standard from 2013 on. My guess (pure speculation) is that they will have a new R-Spec with even better numbers than the current as they'll have to justify the additional $2k in the future. So - in a few years time, our R-Spec will be a 5.0, just like the standard V-8, and underpowered as compared against the then-current R-Spec. All that said, I still think the R-Spec's added "oomph" today and the wheels are worth the extra $2k (or, if you deal well and qualify for the right rebates, only $600 and change above Fitzmall's price for the 4.6).

The wheels, you will find, are hit or miss. I love them, but others on this forum, Newman and Ruissimo, for example, have expressed that they don't care for them (at least in combination with the Black Noir Pearl).

Best of luck and welcome to the forum. My first post was about the R-Spec too ;)

USA Today:

The free iPad won't come with the Equus anymore with the start of the 2012 model year. The new cars start arriving next month. Instead, owners are going to have to depend on their old standby, the voluminous paper version of the manual, says spokesman Jim Trainor.

Trainor says the iPads were only intended as a one-year promotion. The Equus only went on sale in the U.S. about a year ago. Oddly, Hyundai has mostly confined its television ads for the Equus only to the fact that it has an iPad as an owners manual, without talking about any attributes of the $58,000 car itself. The ads are narrated by actor Jeff Bridges, of course.

The electronic owners manual, brainchild of Hyundai America CEO John Krafcik, seen at right , is kind of a wonder. It has lots of interactive features like showing how the car's headlights can be steered from side to side -- with the slide of a fingertip.

"We got a lot of mileage out of it. People are talking about it," he says of the iPad. Now, "Every Equus has a (paper) owners manual in the glove box."

For Equus buyers who want the electronic owners manual for their own iPads or other tablets, Trainor says it will be available for download.

Sounds like a good argument to lease.
