  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Brought home the R-Spec!

Just wondering what your last car was?

My last vehicle was a pretty plush ride, I must admit. A 2000, Ford Ranger XLT Extended cab, 2x4 with a CD player - pretty nice huh? (Can you sense the sarcasm?) I got it in 1999 and other than a having to replace the clutch it never gave me any real problems and got me through undergrad, law school and several harsh winters in South Bend, Indiana.

So, in short, I was coming from a bumpy ride (leaf springs) and consider the R-Spec to be quite firm. I did a lot of test drives of other cars though (BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, 2010/2011 4.6 Genesis) and I think I can make a decent comparison. All of that said - it's not jarring or particularly annoying. I don't want to be driving a car that feels like a 1980s Buick, I want to know when I hit a bump so I can steer clear of it in the future.

Does it recover from bumps nicely or is jittery?

how the heck is the op supposed to know what your "nicely" and "jittery" are lol.. just go drive one, you forum shoppers are just too much.

btw the way OP, love that car, not loving those wheels though.. black inserts are a little much for my taste, looked good on platinum but not with that beautiful black paint job (minus the factory orange peel i mean lol)...

Dude, you think too highly of yourself. I asked the question of him. He doesn't need ominpotent tony of the Genesis forum to protect him. For the sake of clarity; more often than not you come across as an *******. But I know your not to peoples faces...that takes real cajones...not the kind exhibited behind aliases.

i could've ignored your nonsensical post but i chose not to. You are a forum shopper that has asked a ridiculous question of a person with whom you've never met, can't judge his/her opinion, which is of a subjective nature. "nicely" and "jittery" the words you NON owners love to throw around do due people coming from caddys/lincolns, etc. mentioning them from 2008 through today. most of these people expected a 100k ride from a 40k car then the stereotype just continues to grow thanks to people like yourself.

suspension/ride dynamics are purely subjective and are on a "sliding scale" of sorts..period. one side is jittery/handles like it's on rails other side is floaty/composed. BMW, MB, to a lesser degree infiniti/Lexus have found a good median on that scale whereas hyundai is still catering to smooth road, handles great side. if you like it, buy it, if you don't then buy something else..

Hey Tonygxp - A sunny day in New Jersey? Did you photo shop that? :-P

Glashub - don't take it too personally - those east coast NJ/NY guys (sorry for the insult of lumping them all together) are just very blunt talkers. We all still want you around (OK - most of us).

Cheers,
Newman

you mean don't beat around the bush like a pu**y fake jerkoff?? yeah, that's most of us. btw i moved to NJ 10 yrs ago, i grew up in NYC..

As for you wanting him around, for what? he obviously is NOT buying a genesis so what is he doing here for 9 months?

here's how the op's genesis rides, tons better than yours glashub, that's how.

on this forum nobody calls out the "trolls" because they are definitely better hidden than on LS1tech and other forums i belong to, but i can spot them a mile away. they plant an idea, like a seed. his one post would start a debate about the suspension...AGAIN.... glad i'm the only idiot to take the bait, but then again i had to call him out on it.

You aren't the only one to spot them a mile away, or call them out. See the troll in the Equus forum who complained that Hyundai should have provided blind spot warning and an iPad charger. Or the one who's maps didn't show Alabama so he wondered if his traction control would fail.
Keep up the good work.

As tonygxp pointed out, it's all subjective. That said, I'll do my best to try to explain it (but may only muddy the waters still further).

I've grown up riding a lot of motorcycles in my life. The steering on the R-Spec feels a lot like a motorcycle with a very sharp response and an equally sharp correction to original direction. Now, you don't get as much feel from a steering wheel as you do handle bars, but the analogy should help at least give you an idea of how it feels to me.

I don't think I mind though. As I mentioned above, I like knowing when I hit a rough spot I should avoid next time around.

In Glashub's defense, I was a forum lurker for a good while before pulling the trigger - the committed responses and wealth of content on this forum was a big factor in my decision to get this car and I can't thank you guys enough.

I LOVE the wheels - they're one of the main reasons I chose the R-Spec over the 4.6 - I guess it's a matter of what floats your boat.

see your join date? see glashub's? now look at post counts.. glashub's are more in line with a procrastinating troll... how many times are we going to revisit the "jitter" word?? do you think glashub would've posted that if it wasn't drilled into his head by other ex caddy lincoln driving angry owners lol?

So your a low level parts guy at someplace called Tune Time located where? I am so impressed you "wanna be" shot-caller sap. I forgive you though. If I had to go to place like that...I'd be angry too. You must feel so powerless everyday. Explains why you come here to try to exert some kind of authority. Yeah, I don't like you. I don't like that you called me a liar about Fitzmall pricing and didn't apologize when 3 people jumped in on that thread to support me and the pricing I posted about. But again, Tune Time would make anybody feel like a fraud and a fake. I forgive you even though I don't like you.

So your a low level parts guy at someplace called Tune Time located where? PM me your name and number dude. You'd discover then how high powered I am you wanna be shot-caller sap.

Really? Wow, I take it back Glashub. You are now just being a tool.

It is subjective.

Jim Mateja had this to say about the TL's ride.

This TL also adds SH (Super Handling) to its name. Don't be fooled. Despite larger 18-inch radials (17 inchers on the base) and larger-diameter stabilizer bars, the suspension was jittery at times on uneven roads. Maybe we just expected a softer ride in keeping with Acura's luxury image but got a firmer ride to announce its performance turn.

Nice car Trotti. Congrats. Please keep us informed on how you like the car. Hopefully, I will be upgrading from the 4.6 to the R-Spec this month.

Thanks trotti. Nice pictures of you and your car by the way. Unfortunately we don't have any 4.6's in LA or in Portland, OR, so I have to live and imagine the ride vicariously. I will certainly buy a 4.6 or maybe even the R-spec once I get a chance to drive both. And providing they have fixed what so many reviewers (and me) have noticed about the ride.

I did almost buy the 2011 4.6 but alas the ride wasn't right for me. Hence my intense curiosity in the 2012.

But when I do buy the car, if the ride is right for me, I won't be telling anybody about it here on this forum. Too bad there are Genesis owners who do Hyundai a disservice by creating an ugly impression on earnest seekers.

In my defense I have started a number of threads in the service of the community regarding how to negotiate and buy a Genesis.

Calling me a "tool" does fit in with the whole Tune Time theme doesn't it. :)

I like the pun.

try a little google search on tune time performance. see if there's not articles in gm high tech performance and super chevy just about every month, yeah, i'm starved for attention. no buddy, we get enough. while your delivering pizza or typing behind some computer desk somewhere i'm operating an $80k mustang AWD dyno with 1000WHP cars/trucks on it.. who do you think has more fun at work?

btw, the last time i checked the name of this forum was "Genesis OWNERS". bye bye window shopper.. go get your lexus or infiniti then come back here pretending to compliment the owners meanwhile trying to justify the non-jittery 12-15k more you'll spend because your ego needs to see a little three pointed star on the hood.. enjoy.

c'mon boys !!!!! Be nice.
