If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Okay so basically I just bought a 2013 genesis coupe with 25000 miles. Im getting this CEL P0049 and it says Turbo/super charger over speed? I'dk What's going on with it. I took it to hyundai and they said they can't do warranty work because my car has mods and it's on "steroids" like wtf
I talk to some people and there saying it's probably because my car isn't "tuned" I also noticed a lot of soot in the exaust pipes which is really dark and I think my cars running rich. I'm also getting like 13 mpg?
So basically I was wondering if I could get a btr stage 2 tune with the mods I have and if ill be okay? Please let me know thanks

From looking at my car I know it has these mods.
Hks BOV
Short Ram intake (not sure of brand)
Isis exaust (has no mufflers and is really loud think it has no cats?)
Front mounted intercooler (unless that comes stock?)

The engine control module sets DTC P0049 if it detects the turbine speed of the turbocharger is more than 172,000 rpm. You probably ARE tuned and are probably running 19psi or higher as that is really the only way you're reaching 172k rpm. I think it's also possible you could have a boost leak. Since Hyundai isn't going to help you out you're going to need somebody who works with the Genesis Coupe in an aftermarket performance sense.

It kinda sounds like you just bought somebody else's problem(s) but that doesn't mean you can't get it squared away. It's just going to cost some money and you'll need to drive it non-aggressively until you do...

edit: And yes - you ARE running too rich (which is where some of your gas is going) but that's definitely better than running too lean. There's some more power to be had out of the tune by reversing some of that richness but the leaner you go, the more dangerous it is for your engine...

Thanks for the detailed reply, are you saying I need to find a mechanic or would a custom btr tune fix all my issues?

Can you ask the previous owner which tune is on the vehicle? That would save you time and money - because whatever tune is already on there probably just needs to tweaking. I think it's possible that a custom BTR tune would fix your issues but I really can't be sure. In fact, it's probably "probable" - but you may also have a boost leak - which would need fixing by a mechanic or other skilled individual. If the problem is a boost leak, a tune alone isn't going to suffice. Ya know?

Yea your right. The only problem is that I bought it from a dealer and they didn't know the previous owner and when I was about to buy it I asked if it was stock and they said there not sure lol, so yea I have no idea what's on this car or what tune it has. I'm wondering if there is a simple way to know if I have a boost leak?

Yes, I've been there before (buying a car that already had a tune from a dealer that didn't know anything about it). In my case the car drove fine and didn't have any problems. However, I still loaded a new tune on it and moved forward fine afterwards. I'm not sure how to detect a boost leak myself. I believe there's something called a "smoke test" but you surely need some type of machinery to run that test. I think it would be best to start there. If there's no boost leak, then I might go ahead and load on a new tune and see if that resolves any issues...
