  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Burger Motorsports JB4 high performance tuner for Genesis vehicles

If the dealer sees colder plugs they can’t assume you ran a tune, that’s speculation. Speculation doesn’t work on courts.
I think his point was that at the end of the day the dealer/manufacturer is not worried about a lawsuit for denying your claim because like most major companies they have the financial resources to wait you out. Most purchasers of a $50k car can't afford 50k in lawyer/arbitration costs.

Also if I tuned my car and needed to take the car in for drive train related warranty work I'd be switching the plugs back out

Not an issue for us leasing folks. Plugs are good for...and not checked...until like 100k miles or something.

Read the whole post, if I was going in for a Power train warranty repair I would swap stock plugs back in. Not routine service. Meaning some shit broke and they are repairing transmission or engine parts

I think plugs needs to be replaced around 40-60K miles per manual....but still, we'll be getting a new cars way before that time, lol

Yeah...I just threw that out there. Need to check the manual.

Just checked...42k miles. Regardless...car will be long gone.

I did. Why the F would they look at your plugs for transmission work. It like 1.5 hours labor.

Either way...there is nothing wrong with swapping plugs. They are better than stock anyway.

That's way earlier than I would expect. But yes most of these cars will be lease and return, especially the tuned ones.

The JB4 device appears to be designed well and effective but I’m curious.
We already know that the launch control on the car is more subdued compared to other cars in its class. We assume it’s to protect the standard automatic transmission in the car. Makes sense when you’re warranting it for 10 years. I’m curious on the longevity and reliability of the transmission on such power increases. Not sure if it surpasses or runs at the edge of the design limits. Can anybody shed some knowledgeable light on this?

There's really no long term use case for these transmissions in a high performance car as the unit is an in house hyundai built unit. If you're launching it hard with a tune the transmission will probably be the first thing to go. Check back in a few years...

I have noticed some quirks, when im at full throttle and quickly let off the transmission kinda makes a loud thud noise, (I notice it happens at higher rpm letting off throttle right before transmission shifts)

Hope that's a leased car.

@Ernie3647 the G90 5.0 seems to also use the same transmission (with slightly different gearing). That vehicle has peak 420 hp and 383 ft-lbs of torque while weighing a pretty hefty 4905 in AWD config (4751 in RWD) so that would be the most highly stressed application of that transmission. Assuming that all other the primary internals are the same (shafts, bearings, clutch disks/plates, etc) there is probably at least some room for the G70 3.3TT for additional peak hp/torque gains before exceeding design limits.

Vehicle usage would also play a huge factor in longevity as well, as a person redlining the engine on a stock car 80% of the time would likely wear out the powertrain faster than a tuned vehicle that operated in the low-mid range of the powerband for the same duration.

I recall someone on this forum saying they had talked with an engineer (or someone else I can’t remember) from Genesis and had told him the g70 was originally designed to have 520 hp
I can’t verify if this is factual or not, just what I had read somewhere on the forum.

It's my understanding from what I've read that the one used on the G70 is of a slightly different design. It is physically smaller to accommodate the size of the car though the gearing and software might be similar.

Tuned cars have been launching very hard with no problems on the stock tranny. So far I've seen just about 500whp work safely on the stock tranny.

Things I've read about that have damaged the transmission...
1- big turbo upgrade. Though, there is some debate as to the details behind these 2 cases I read about.
2- brake cut mod. This bypasses the ECU'S ability to see the brakes being pressed, and you can launch it HARD by building boost during powerbraking. At least 2 people have damaged their tranny's by holding boost for too long during launch while using this mod.

I don't know if it's the torque converter that is going out in these cases, or the transmission itself, or something else entirely.

All things considered, the G70/Stinger transmission is pretty stout. You can do all the bolt-on and tuning upgrades you want and it will hold up fine. But when you start doing big boy upgrades, that's where things don't look too good....so far, at least.

I will not be getting my JB4 about another month, but received my Densco plugs today. Just to verify, Is it ok to run the new plugs gapped @ .022 WITHOUT A TUNE? Also what value to torque plugs. Thanks Rob

Yeah...you can drive with the plugs being stock (no JB4 or Map 0). Torque...dunno...but definitely not tight.

Ditto on this. I had issues with my jb4 control board going bad and ran no tune with plugs. Obviously the car was slower but 0 issues at all with the gapped plugs. And terry did get me hooked up with a new board to fix my issue. Customer service at burger tuning is awesome. So happy I decided to go the jb4 route. As far as torque on the plugs I’d try to look in the manual. I use to build performance engines for dirt bikes back when I raced full time so I usually just elbow toque it till it feels right. But that’s definitely not the right way to do it 😂. I was rebuilding the engine every month to keep it fresh tho so my application it was okay

IF anyone chooses to buy a tuner that is their choice. BUT do not post anywhere online in a forum or anywhere else that you did. If you think Genesis does not watch and note the forums then you are definitely living in the past. I know this for a fact, the company I recently retired from has a complete team that does nothing but monitor Facebook, Instagram and forums etc by brand and catalog data to be used in defense of there product. Do a Track day and post it anywhere and you take the chance of loosing your car insurance and the warranty on the car. And for those of you who finance or lease your car if you loose your insurance for any reason the bank will not be happy. Just telling you to watch out, stay incognito and your probably OK.
Do some research online, Lambo totaled on racetrack during track day then moved to separate location, Insurance company knew before claim was filed.
