  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Some of us where trying to verify how many of the Genesis wheels where touching the ground when the car was being towed (0, 2, or 4). All we where told was it was a U-Haul trailer/carrier, so just trying to verify what actually happened.

We just towed our 2012 Genny 2,000 miles across the country on a U-haul tow trailer/carrier (NOT a dolly).

It's obvious, your Genny does not like Columbus and wants to be back in beautiful Sierra Vista, AZ ASAP. :D

To get serious....the first thing I would look at is did something wind up pinched between the block and the exhaust headers? I am not familiar with the 3.8 but if it is a crosswise engine layout (engine sits sideways in the bay) it would be easy for something to blow up from underneath and wedge itself in the headers. Once burned onto the header it could take awhile to burn off unless you can scrape most of it off.

My only other thought is to contact the servicing dealer in SV and see if their nav update procedure or oil change might have caused something awry. It's probably a long shot but it is possible they dropped the old oil filter ring or something else down into the bowels of the engine.

Good luck.

a few hours before we put in on the trailer, we had the Nav update done as well as an oil change at our local dealer in Sierra Vista, AZ.
Yes, this is most likely cause, and why I do my own oil changes (it is not to save money).

We just towed our 2012 Genny 2,000 miles across the country on a U-haul tow trailer/carrier (NOT a dolly). Last Thursday (7th) a few hours before we put in on the trailer, we had the Nav update done as well as an oil change at our local dealer in Sierra Vista, AZ. From the dealer we drove it 2 miles to the U-haul dealer and loaded it up on the carrier and got the trailer hooked up to the truck.

Tues night at U-haul we got the Genny off the trailer. Started it up, backed it off, and not too long after startup, it started smelling like burning rubber. Checked under the hood and serpentine belt looked free and clear, and no noise. But the smell persisted. Drove it home. Yesterday morning, drive it a couple of miles, smells bad. Parked it as we had movers unloading our stuff.

This morning, 28 deg, started up to let it warm up. I was checking tire pressure and on the right front side, as I was bending down, I could smell burning rubber again. Not the smell of burning oil. Burning rubber. Called local Hyundai service here in Columbus (Ricart), he said to call Hyundai Roadside Assistance as he didn't want us to take any chances. Called Hyundai and they had a carrier out to us in 30 minutes (we're about 15 miles from the dealer). So they have he car tonite and tomorrow and we'll know more. Hopefully it's not serious.

Did you find out what the problem is?

Just thought of something after I returned from "spirited driving". My garage smelled like burnt stuff due to my brakes being hot. Might want to have them check and see if a brake caliper not releasing all of the way.

I thought the OP said he just started it in his driveway and smelled the burning rubber. Don't remember him driving it.

My guess is one of those oil change techs dropped their rubber glove down in the bowels of the engine someplace and it is now being recycled by Mother Nature. :)

What is 3?

Do I win? :)

Nah - ;) Sorry ~ 3 is when you have a numerically challenged wrench monkey

I thought that's what we had, excluding the OP? ;)

OK, I forgot to check the thread here; We did pick up the car on Friday evening. Bottom line is that they thoroughly checked everything, and found nothing. They said the smell was fainter, and said they put maybe 15 miles on the care to warm it up. He suggested that we monitor it and if the smell did not disappear to call them back. We noticed they did a thorough wash of the car and DID put gas in it - my wife noticed it had more gas than when we dropped it off. So Saturday morning I took it back into town to Discount Tire, and no noticeable odor, and has been none Sunday and today. My wife has been driving it and would notice it immediately but says she cannot detect it.

As for the oil change, it was a free one from our dealer in SV. Tech here said he didn't see any oil collected anyplace on engine or exhaust. So it's one of those odd things that make you go "hmmmmm..."...

Yea I hear ya...where in AZ might you be?

This one is over my head. But I admitted up front that I am "trailer challenged."

Really:- Just Trailer Challenged?..........

Kewl.

First pic is the Genny on the flatbed going to the Dealer.

The 2nd picture is the Genny on the trailer.

...AND can anybody guess where the third picture was taken?

The burning rubber smell is gone now.
