  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

But there are children aboard!!

A few years ago I took a Route 66 tour from Lubbock to Santa Monica. I was in a new Caddy STS (rental). With the family on board we cruised between 80 - 100 frequently and we were passed frequently. No drama, just

It was nice to see all of the parts of Americana and it was also nice to make good time. Except for the crowded North East corridor, most places I've driven have at least a few highways capable of supporting 85+ speed limits. Even the NJ Turnpike was designed with 75 mph speed limits in mind in the 1950s. With modern cars even that highway could easily support 85+.

Well said, but speed in and of itself isn't remarkably dangerous. It's speed differential that poses the biggest risk no matter what you're driving, where, or when.

Agreed. The speed differential is huge, plus the many variables that mostly involve other people: their competency, the condition of their cars, or road debris or wildlife that you're driving to fast to see. I would rather drive at 3-digit speeds in a place like Germany where speed is the expectation and not the exception.

Also, a surprise at 60 could constitute a fatal event at 100. You may be in control of your vehicle, but you're not in control of things that suddenly and unexpectedly appear in your path.

Exactly.
