If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Buying from out of state

Curiuos to know how my local dealer would feel when I take the vehicle that I bought elsewhere for complementary maintenance/service valet? Would they provide any less of a service?
I'm getting my scheduled maintenance done at a different dealer than I purchased the car from. The Dealers are equal distance from my home and about 30 miles from each other. I bought my previous G80 from the Dealer I'm using to service my GV80.

Honestly, the service departments are a separate profit center. I've had no trouble getting my local dealer to do the Genesis recommended maintenance on my vehicle. One thing they aren't obligated to do is wash your vehicle, and if they offer it as courtesy they may not do it if you didn't buy your car there. I usually decline the free-washes anyway.

I have located the GV80 that I am interested at dealerships that are ~1000-1500 miles from me. Those who bought out of state, how did you manage to get your vehicle: did you drive it home or have it shipped? How much does it typically cost to ship?

Most dealers that I am talking to are offering GV80 for MSRP, except a few that asked for $3-10K more.

There is this one dealership, who is asking for $399 dealer prep fee (to get the vehicle cleaned up and all), $300 for tinting, $300 for glass etching (VIN), ~300 for door protector strip, etc. Not sure any of these are wroth it.
I live in Orlando FL, and bought my GV80 Prestige from a dealership on Long Island NY.
I arranged shipping, used Roadrunner Transport- excellent service. About $900 open transport, but it was nasty weather at the time, so I paid for enclosed transport, $500 more.
They loaded on a Friday 10am, and pulled up at my house Saturday 5pm!

my local dealer has had no issue doing the valet service on mine that i bought out of state.

At last, I finally bought a 3.5 Prestige in Blue/Dune from Genesis of Austin, TX sight unseen and having it shipped to where I am at. I paid MSRP (72,995) plus 580 for accessories (wheel locks, cargo tray, rear bumber applique, first aid kit). I had no option but to buy the window tinting (290) and window etching (290). They tried to sell me $2750 extended service contract, which I declined. The only other unwanted charge was Dealer’s Inventory Tax (138.25), which is BS and has nothing to do with my purchase. It is a property tax on the dealership based on the total sales of motor vehicles in the prior year. I asked them to take it out, but they said it was non-negotiable. They knew I wanted the vehicle and I just had to swallow the 138.25. I worked with the sales guy named Tom Williamson. He was great to work with. But the finance guys were trying to upsell stuff that I did not need. I booked through Montway to have my vehicle shipped to NC in an enclosed container ($989). They are picking my vehicle up today and will be delivering it in two days. Can't wait to see it in person. Thank you for all for your advice and sharing your experience.

I live in NC and purchased a sight-unseen 2021 GV80 from a dealer in TX. It was the only one I could find with the trim and color packages I wanted. Dealer sold at MSRP but added tinted windows, bumper/door edge/handle protectants in exchange for $1,000 which I was ok with. I paid an open truck service $1,400 to transport the vehicle roughly 1,400mi ($1/mi). To have the colors, trim, and tint/protectant I wanted anyway, at MSRP + shipping was worth it for me. I couldn't be happier with the vehicle - it's absolutely gorgeous and exceeds the Mercedes GLE and Lincoln Aviator I was considering before purchase.

Buy the car, don't buy a damn thing beyond that. Get any extras you want done locally in your area by a 3rd party. All those extras are prty much a scam or way over priced. That's where the dealer makes their money desires financing fees. You should be able to get 1,000 or 2,000 of MSRP

Agreed, because of low inventory and high demand, dealers are having a field day. One dealership in the Dallas area asked for $3K over MSRP. I told him that I'm getting one at MSRP from Austin dealership, and asked if he could match it. He said "no" and that he would have an easy time selling for $3K over MSRP. Another dealership in Winston-Salem, NC asked for $2K more, when I tried to negotiate, they basically said "go away". One dealership in Charlotte asked how much loan I was approved for. I told him that is none of his business, and that I have sufficient amount approved. He came back with $10K over MSRP. Greedy suckers who are exploiting high demand.

I had one dealership in Sarasota that offered me a GV80 at $5k over MSRP. They called it a “price adjustment”.

I flew to New York to get mine. Do what you have to do. LOVED the ride home. :)

Sorry to hear this. Genesis of Charlotte (Keffer) sold me a GV80 at MSRP a month ago, no problem. I called them from Greenville and said which one I wanted and that I wasn’t willing to pay over MSRP. Picked it up next day. Finance guy was great too. Highly recommend them.

Exactly how I was treated by Genesis of Kalamazoo (Michigan). Highly recommend.

Hi guys,
I bought my gv80 from Maryland and i live in Virginia. Still out of state but next door state.

It is been 2.5 month since my purchase but i am still to get tags and registration. Dealer is taking care of it. They first gave me 60 day temporary plate, which expired. They issued another temporary tag for 30 days.

Does anyone face any problem with tags when buying out of state.

I am not sure if i need to worry about it. I am able to drive car on temporary number and so far not stopped by any cops.

Hi, looks as though you have your answers, but I also bought recently out of state. About 350miles for me.

I was a MA resident purchasing in NY. Spotted a deal and communicated with the dealer who was willing to do most everything over the phone. I purchased with outside lending, so it was essentially a cash deal, and they didn't bother to sell me on the extras. The agreed upon purchase price was what I paid them plus a small dealer fee:
  • Deposit to hold the car (later applied to the price)
  • Did 30% down in cash (personal check was accepted)
  • My Credit Union overnighted me a bank check for the loan amount, made out to the dealership. But they offered to send the check directly to them as well. My bank simply required the purchase order to make the loan.
  • There was $150 in dealership fees.
But the transaction was the easy part...

Getting the car home was not. Luckily I had someone willing to take that road trip with me, but if not...I was looking at some logistical headaches.
My options came down to:
  • Beg someone for a ride
  • Rent a car one way, which I could not find a car rental company willing to do this in the location I was going to.
  • Rent a Uhaul truck both ways with a trailer attachment ~ $275, picking the car up and bringing it back
  • Rent a Uhaul one way with literally nothing in it ~$400 and driving the car back
But even then it got a little sticky, In NY you're required to have insurance when you pick up the car, same in MA, however in MA your insurance is tied in with your registration - meaning I had no insurance on the car until it was titled and registered in MA which I had to do with the car's title in my hand. Luckily the dealer sent me home on dealer plates, and I simply mailed them back.

So this was the hard part. I could not drive on my own plates with my own insurance until that car was re-titled in my state and registered.

Funny enough, they said to me if you get pulled over - the registration and insurance are taped to the back of the plate. Meaning if I had gotten pulled over, I would have needed a screw driver....

Got the car home without occasion, but the car had to sit in the garage for 4 weeks, because it had to be titled, insured and registered in person which in MA is a nightmare right now.

Anyway, it was by far the best deal, a crazy story, and anyone who thought I was normal before, now thinks I'm nuts.

YOU aren't nuts---NY & MA are the nuts!
I bought mine in MI, but I live in IN. Friend drove me the 75 miles from home to dealer.
Dealership called my insurance company, added new car to policy, gave me a paper plate & sent me on my way. FedEx'd the CofO to me is a few days, along with paperwork (MI sales tax of 6% that IN gets from MI). IN sales tax is 7% ( 😩 ) so when I went to the BMV, all I had to do was transfer plate to new car; pay 1% tax & title fee. All done within 4-5 days, but could drive home, & continue driving, from day of purchase!

I had mine shipped from Kansas, been driving 34 days now with paper tags and of coarse full ins. Tags state 60 days so around nov 28 th i will pay tax..6.25%,title and pick up my personal plates.
