  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Sad, but true.

Rest in peace.

I talk to myself more and more too!! :D
I will be driving V8s or high performance 6s until I, too, become as extinct these V8s.
:)

Man i gotta chime in here....

1st my 400HP bmw was faster and more frugal with the gas... at best it was 20-22MPG city (my driving) and 28-30 highway (my driving. the V8 genesis which is slower imo is 3-6 MPG less.

Honda and toyota have made high reving 4 cylinders that last hundreds of thousands of miles without any problems. If the engine is built for high revs it will more then likely last the test of time. now with all that being said ofcourse a V8 tac'd at 1500 rpm all day long (engine stress 5%) will prob last forever compared to a 4cyl tac'd at 3000 rpm all day long (engine stress 30%). Do you want a V8 that will last a million miles or 200k ? I have never owned a car over 200k let alone over 150k, Everything else will break before that. Engine quility now adays is quite good, i'd be more concerned about everything else falling apart before then.

Turbos have come quite a long ways since the 80s, granted more electronics and parts to break. Water and oil cooling, etc.

I would not hesitate to replace an 8 with a boosted smaller engine. Hell i had 300 torque at 1800 rpm with my V6... whats the hyundai V8 going to provide...

not the end of world reducing the V12's and V8s

just as a point to ponder.. would you rather have a V8 m3... or a E92 335i boosted.... the majority picked E92 boosted. which is another reason why the M division is removing the V8 out of the M3.

sorry for the rant

ppp

p.s exbmwguy... sad when we have to take hyundai emblem off with replace with wings... never touched my bmw

I have put over 240,000 miles on many cars. The most recent was a 2004 Acura TSX and no major problems and did it not use oil and tranny was perfect. Before that I had a Mazda 929 220,000 miles no problems with engine, also had a Toyota with over 260,000 miles and no problems. I think its all about a good car from the manufacturer and doing the maintenance and repairs, not putting stuff off and not overlooking things that should be checked.

I have owned cars with outrageous reputations for poor reliability (think Italian) that I maintained and were high-mileage trouble free cars. I have also had cars that had great reputations for durability and reliability that dropped like flies on the road, even with meticulous maintenance. And, as my name implies, I have had highly sophisticated German cars - even modest displacement, turbocharged models - that cost more than partying trust-fund kids.

I like my Genny and I like my wings!

Another step in nObama and his tree hugging ecological radicals to CHANGE this county....and not for the better.

Sad when the company has to take the original OEM emblems -- the wings -- and replace them with an H for the US market, not to mention going with NO emblem in the front at all...
