If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have to say, from the one picture, it looks pretty good.

Here's the first image of the gorgeous new Cadillac XTS, a modern full-sized replacement for the outgoing DTS/STS twin bus-sized sedans. Behold, the Cadillac of luxo-barges.

We first saw the Cadillac XTS Concept at the Detroit Auto Show and although still a concept, we were impressed that it didn't seem to be a ginormous snorewagon like the older STS and DTS it was meant to replace.

There's nothing wrong with either of those vehicles if you're a 70-year-old retired accountant living out your final days in Boca, but they were out-of-place in the new Cadillac lineup. This XTS gets the new CUE infotaintment system as well as the handsome, creased body.

Cadillac confirms the image is of the real production model. Why did we need confirmation? We didn't really, because they accidentally published it in on their front page. It looks like today's test of the emergency broadcast system screwed up everyone.

We're just happy the flagship for Cadillac will once again be a car, instead of, you know, the Escalade.

I think it may be a Buick LaCrosse dressed up. We will see.

IMO... I dont think this is a gorgeous car. I never liked the grasshopper headlights. I agree its probably a souped up Lacrosse.

This is the production version of the concept that was revealed in Detroit last year. It rides on an entirely different platform than the Lacrosse's Epsilon II platform. This platform is RWD and AWD and meant to be their flagship sedan.

Cadillac XTS Platinum Concept - 2010 Detroit Auto Show

So the info below is not correct.

Mark Reuss, North American President of General Motors, made official today what we already knew, that Cadillac's lineup is growing by two new vehicles. The new models are the large XTS luxury sedan and compact ATS sport sedan.

The XTS is based on the XTS Platinum Concept that debuted at the 2010 Detroit Auto Show and will go on sale spring of 2012. It replaces both the STS and DTS in Cadillac's lineup and is expected to use the same Epsilon II platform that underpins the Buick LaCrosse, which means both front-wheel and all-wheel drive will be offered.

My understanding is that the XTS is not going to be FWD, as a top of the line flagship automobile to be taken seriously in this segment.

The Cadillac XTS is not a flagship vehicle, though it does happen to be the largest "car" in their lineup. It's front wheel drive only at the time. It'll probably be all wheel drive in it's second year or so. It's powered by the same V6 found in the CTS. Cadillac is planning a true, premium, full-size rear wheel drive sedan. For some design elements, you can look here:

The only thing really impressive about the XTS will be the interior. The technology involved there will be phenomenal. The XTS is basically a replacement for the DTS and previous generation (FWD) Seville STS.

The only way this car will threaten the Hyundai Equus is with history and heritage.

if it's FWD and a V6 then it will immediately be relegated to livery service and no luxury buyer will consider it.

Haha! I hear ya. But you'll be surprised how much the car sells. First, it's the badge. That'll sell the vehicle, to some extent, along. Then you have interior experience - which is going to be very, very impressive. Power MAY be very good if they use their 3.0 liter twin turbocharged engine - which they just might.

A few more things to consider. This car will have more horsepower with the 3.6 DI than the outgoing DTS with Northstar which it replaces - but a little less torque. It's going to have a very smooth ride but handle better than the DTS. It'll get better gas mileage. It'll look more up to date with the times on the outside.

I'm sure the car will sell a lot - just not so much to people like you and I.

Yeah it will sell but that doesn't necessarily make it a good car. I like what I'm seeing so far, and I'll leave judgement till I see the thing in person. Cadillac has a storied history and a massive base to sell to. They're going through their own sort of renaissance as well. People really shook their heads with the CTS-V, but it's turned out to be a heck of a car, if only to get excited about the brand again. I really hope they continue to do well. Now about Lincoln...

Also, people who live where it snows and don't want to bother with snow tires in winter, will have no problem with FWD.

As well as the entire condo association at Del Boca Vista.

I seriously doubt that any of them know the difference between FWD and RWD. The do know the difference between Cadillac, Ford, Hyundai, etc, labels.

The XTS is supposed to be a stop-gap measure until the reportedly greenlit V8/RWD flagship enters the lineup; right now, there aren't plans to take the XTS beyond 1 generation, but who knows if GM will continue it or switch it over to Buick for its 2nd or 3rd iteration.

Correct and this car cannot be compared to the Equus. GM is considering a full-size rear driver to compete against the Lexus LS/BMW 7 series/MB S class and of course the beautiful Equus.
