Trust me, if you would have grown up where I grew up in Southwest Minnesota, close to South Dakota, you would have gotten stuck; a lot.

We had 20 foot drifts that would swallow all vehicles. We had snowplows that would get stuck. I was stuck in Sioux Falls South Dakota in 1968 for 3 days - 60 miles from home and the snowplows could not clear the road for 3 days.

I lived in the "Down East Coast of Maine" in the 60's. Also had lots of snow, with huge drifts. No such thing as All Weather Tires. They were either summer or winter tires. With my Buick with my summer tires, I never got stuck. Just before I replaced all the tires, I got a set ot "Snow Tires". I must have been over-confident, because one day, I got stuck, and could not get out. (Someone came along and pulled me out).

My biggest problem with Genesis is its price, The 3.8 model costs me 80,000$!!! This means that The Genesis is not a cheap car, In fact it is one of the most expensive cars here! Not only Genesis, Every car in my country costs twice as international prices. We pay for 2 cars just for 1!!! U are not going to believe but a Mercedes-Benz C200 Compressor with Elegance equipment range costs 80,000$ here! I think u can buy a Mercedes-Benz CLS-350 or even CLS-500 with that price in USA!

Also most of the cars are forbidden here, Like super sports, All Mercedes-Benz AMG models, All BMW M-Power models, Tuned cars. And if u want to import one of these and get a license plate for it, U must pay for about 4 or 5 of that car!!!

For example I saw a Lamborghini Murcielago with Iran's license plate. I asked its owner how much did it cost u, He said this car costs him 2,500,000$!!! It means that it costs much more expensive than the most expensive car in the world I think!

The custom right is 120% in my country! This means that only the cars that are more than 15 years old costs under 20,000$!

Most owners in snowy climates report that with a good set of snow tires, or in some cases even good all-weather tires, they have no problems driving in snow. Everybody reports that the OEM Dunlop tires perform very poorly in snow.

dg, not everybody reports that the OEM Dunlops perform very poorly in snow. I posted to this forum about driving my gennie in the snow before Christmas in AZ on interstate and 2 lane highways....about 100 miles worth. I never once lost traction nor slid.

Now I have experience driving in snow here in Colorado in the mountains and the Denver area with rear wheel drive (about 30+ years worth of experience). Maybe that counts for some significant experience.

So please do not speak for everyone about how the Genesis drives in the snow with our Dunlops. It has been my experience that most people without significant experience driving in snow have great difficulty navigating safely, even with front wheel drive, snow tires, and even 4-wheel!

p.s. Please note that I did not say I like driving in the snow.

Mayhap I spoke too hastily - now that you mention it, I do recall your previous post. However, it seems that there have been more negative than positive comments about the Dunlops in snow. Having driven a lot in serious snow over the past 50+ years, I am a big believer in snow tires and have purchased a set to install this fall. I have no problem with the Dunlops so far in fair weather, so I'll put them back on next spring.

I think that there's no problem with the Genesis in the snow

So now I think that there's no problem with the Genesis in the snow. And it doesn't has too much difference with Azera in snow. Man, I wish we had the 4.6 V8 model here. But if it was, I think it costs about 120,000$ here!

In here for a full-size sedan in this price range (75-85,000$) I think u only have 4 options!

1. Hyundai Genesis 3.8 2010 80,000$
2. Mercedes-Benz E-280 Elegance 2006 85,000$
3. BMW 530i 2006 76,000$
4. Lexus ES-350 2008 75,000$

That's it, It's finished, No other options! I think The Genesis is the best between these cars. I have a Azera 3.3 for 4 years, It's a very good car and it didn't bother me even just for one time. I believe that Genesis 3.8 is surely better than Azera 3.3, And also it has a good service price. The other 3's service price is so expensive, specially Mercedes-Benz.

In here we don't have 10 years of warranty for Genesis, It's only 5 years but it has no millage limit. And it's also in place service, So u don't need to take your car to Hyundai's service stations, They will come to your place.

My Dunlops were unsafe in snow. So, I replaced the Dunlops with Michelin Primacy and they have improved overall ride, traction, and performance. They get through all types of weather without issue and need for snow tires. I kept the Dunlops for my father-in-law per his request.

Now, here is the interesting piece. My father-in-law takes the Dunlops, with 6K miles, to his tire dealer only to find significant tread separation on all four. I open up a ticket with Hyundai America who advise me to take the tires to the dealer. Service Manager runs them over to a local Goodyear shop and ultimately get a partial refund for the tires (85% of retail price after I opted out of a replacement coupon for a 'future' set of Goodyear family tires).

My observation is, how many Genesis Sedan owners have replaced these tires and not recognized or were aware of this tire issue? Had my father-in-law not wanted the tires for another vehicle, I would have never known either. I had to drop the tires back at the Goodyeat dealer that initially inspected them. The tech that unloaded them out of the car said they had seen the Dunlops returned on a varierty of Hyundai models. Interesting and just wanted to share with anyone having tire issues.

First I must get used to this car because I had never driven a rear wheel drive car before. Then, I must also change the tires in winter for more safety. Specially for someone like me that had never driven a rear wheel drive car before, It's recommended.

Mercedes-Benz E-Class is also a rear wheel drive car, Is BMW 530i too?

saman-d, The Mercedes E and BMW 530i are rear drive. Most luxury cars are rear drive. Front wheel drive cars are easier to handle in snow, almost without exception. They have better starting and uphill traction. But, front wheel drive cars do not stop significantly better on ice and snow. Front wheel cars can slip sideways just as easily as all-wheel and rear drive cars, though the characteristics of the slide will be a bit different.
While it is true that some people can drive in winter conditions with non-winter tires, that does not mean that winter tires are not beneficial. In the 55 years that I have been driving winter tires have dramatically improved, to the point now that I will not drive without them in winter months (I disdained winter tires in my youth).

No need to be embarrassed about being in a fortunate position like yourself.
At least you seem to be grateful of what your father did for you.

If I want to upgrade the standard 18" (Original tires: 235/50 R18) rims with 20" rims, What's the best specification for its tires? I don't want that it be so thick and not so slim also, And I also don't want to lose the softness of the car too much because our roads are filled up with lot of holes. While I would not recommend HID's in the fog lights since the lens isn't for HID's, if you want to match you stock HIDs you would want the 4300K.

That's what I got in mine.
