  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Do you know the position of the CAN module of 2015 Genesis?

That is, how to connect a private CAN module to the CAN module of 2015 Genesis in order to sniffer the CAN data ?

Thanks a lot in advance ...

If you mean the OBD connector, it is located behind the fuse access door on the lower left of the dash.

Looks like I was mistaken it is available on the OBD:

ISO 15765 CAN (250 kbit/s or 500 kbit/s). The CAN protocol was developed by Bosch for automotive and industrial control. Unlike other OBD protocols, variants are widely used outside of the automotive industry. While it did not meet the OBD-II requirements for U.S. vehicles prior to 2003, as of 2008 all vehicles sold in the US are required to implement CAN as one of their signaling protocols.

pin 6: CAN High
pin 14: CAN Low

Thank you so much for everyone about kind information!

First question: "which bus?" Most cars will have multiple CAN buses for different systems of components. I found it once, but I cannot remember how many and for what purposes the Genesis has.

The OBD may only have a simple bus for some engine data. There is likely a separate bus for the entertainment system, a separate bus for the instruments, and maybe another bus for engine and transmission.

However, the cool thing is, you do not need to tap into the bus at any one special master module. CAN is a very simple serial protocol that just runs off of one wire (and ground). Every component on the bus will have its respective CAN bus wire in its harness. So, if you want to sniff the infotainment bus, pull the radio module, figure out which is the CAN bus wire, and tap off of that. Likewise for the instruments or ECU, or whatever. Just figure out the CAN bus wire on any module connect to the bus and tap it.

Here is a CAN bus interface designed for BMWs. CAN bus is a standard, so I bet this works for the Huyundais too. I have used this for my old BMWs with great success. You can tap in any place a CAN bus wire is present in the car. All this does is translate the car's CAN bus traffic to a serial bus that will connect to a PC. Then you can do anything. :)
