If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Can I install Turbo Charger on the Genesis? And if I can, Does it need tuning in the other parts like brakes, Body, Rims, Transmission and etc? Has anyone ever done that before?

A competent tuner would be able to install FI into pretty much any engine.
The process, however, wouldn't be cheap and especially with turbo charging, you typically run into problems with temperature control under the hood because of the excessive heat from the 'snail'.

No offense, but judging by your question, you should do a lot more research before making that kind of decision.

I would be more worried about the drivetrain(transmission, differential, drive shaft, etc.) than brakes or 'rims'.

Good luck.

Dan

Wow! I don't think we have a professional tuner here that be able to take care of all of those issues. So it seems a bad idea to do a such thing here.

Thank u for your advisement.

Look, you can put a jet engine in a go-cart. It would be less expensive and less of a problem to buy a new car that has a turbo. I traded my 911 Turbo for my Genesis. I really didn't need 0 to 60 in 3/4 of a second anyway. A cold air intake might give you some more oompf if you really want/need it.

I agree with the comments in the threads. However i was at an ARK meetup a few months ago and they had a gen v-6 on a stand working out some modds for the coupe. The guys i was talking with said "any serious modification would be difficult because the bearing caps were too narrow." that being said, cold air intake, headers, and ecu tune might be good for some extra hp and torque but turbos/ super charger / NOS would be a waste of $ because the stock bottom end would not be able to handle much more power (80+) and i know i would want a lot more power for the investment of adding a turbo/supercharger and all the necc components

Did not know they even imported the Genesis to Tehran Iran, and even if they do, they probably use the smaller V6 than the V6 used elsewhere.
At your age, (21) you probably would be better off spending your money on a smaller sporty car, vice the Genesis Sedan.

When I was 21, there was no way I would ever drive a 4 door sedan. It was sporty 2 door coupes for me.

The Genesis that has imported to Iran has the same 3.8 V6 engine with the US version. Genesis also has a 3.3 V6 engine, but it hasn't imported to Iran.

Hyundai Equus (known as Centennial in Iran) has recently imported to Iran with the 4.6 V8 Tau engine. It costs about $130,000. It's Middle Eastern version, but it doesn't has too much differences with the US version. Exactly against the Genesis that has too much differences between the US and the Middle Eastern version.

Hyundai Genesis Coupe is also available only with the 3.8 V6 engine. It costs about $60,000. It's about $25,000 cheaper than the Genesis sedan, but I like the sedan model myself.

I'm also interested in Hyundai Veracruz (known as ix55 in Iran). It has imported with the same 3.8 V6 engine, but it has more features than the US version.

Yes, you could install a turbo, but currently there are no aftermarket setups, so you'd have to fabricate your own. Owing to the small amount of room to work around and small room left in the engine compartment, it would take a pretty good mechanic shop/fab shop, and removing the engine, most likely.

But is is do-able $$$$$$.

I did a Twin Turbo setup on my old 2004 Infiniti G35 coupe.
We built the bottom end of the motor to handle the power.

The basic build (built motor, tt kit, tt fab, install, fuel system, clutch) was roughly $30k

Just FYI.

It's not something you just 'bolt on'...well, maybe, but bottom line: Turbocharged engines are DESIGNED to well, be turbocharged. That means they have different pistons, rings, connecting rods, crankshaft, etc all designed to deal with the higher compression and combustion temperatures. I have seen it several times over the years....bolt on a turbocharger and blow the engine...bolt on a turbocharger and blow the engine....

I believe that if Hyundai felt the need to turb the 3.8L engine, they would hvae done so. The 3.8L V6 is already a respectable 333 HP, so turb'ing it would be pointless. It's easy to turb a 4 cyl to get over 200HP, and is worth it in small car....but the additional cost for say, the Genesis? Hyundai passed up on it so maybe you should too.

I know the OP is old, but that's my 2 cents anyways.

If you were going to bolt on anything useful, consider a "Mr. Fusion"...

666 fab could make custome turbo manifolds for a couple grand, I'm sure power axel could do a custom base tune for a grand, but it would take a lot of dyno time to get it right, plus there would be oiling, I'm sure you could go with an oilless compressor. And after everything is said and done, if you do most of the fab and plumbing yourself, id guestimate do do it right your tab would be close to 10k.

Thanks a lot fellas for your useful information.

I'm convinced that this is something useless since it will take lot of work and money. The 2012 model which is about 333 Hp has kind of completed this process. They have done a great job by using the GDI technology.

Bump.

So what did you do?

Iran!?!?!

Uh, lemme go change my location.

:D or the parts for the turbo were embargoed.
