  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Can the power folding mirror DIY affect the door locking system?

I drive a 2013 Genesis Sedan 3.8 Base in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Having felt the manual folding mirrors so inconvenient, I recently ordered the mirrors (that have the power folding functions) and the drive door window switch (that has the folding button) from Korea (I am a Korean), and DIYed it.

The DIY itself was much easier than I thought, and I am now happy about the fact that I can now easily fold the mirrors just with a button push. But two unexpected problems arose.

(1) Unlike the USA 2013 models, the Canadian base models have the IMS(Integrated Memory System; the memory system for the seat and mirror positions) as standard. But that function no longer works. If I try installing back the original window switch, though, the IMS works just fine. Can this situation be ever possible?

(2) I am a single guy, so I dont have a spouse or anyone else who shares the driver seat. So maybe I can just (reluctantly) give up the IMS function. But the bigger issue is that the DIY has affected the door lock system somehow.

I can no longer unlock/lock the doors with the two remote control fobs (but the trunk button and the alarm button just work fine), but there is certainly a beep sound when pushing the unlock/lock buttons.

With the two black smart key buttons on the front door catches, the driver door is not unlocking/locking. But this method, the other three doors work fine.

So I am unlocking/locking the driver door by turning the conventional keys in the key hole.

Having thought that only the Hyundai dealerships would be able to figure out what the problem is (because of the possible need for reprogramming my smart key remote controls), I booked a service appointment and will be visiting a dealership tomorrow.
I really think they are going to blame me for the DIY, and (if they ARE able to fix the problem) charge me a huge $$$ for the labour.

Before going to the dealership, I think it would be better to know something about the issue by myself, for preventing the rip-off as much as possible.

Whoever here could address the possible reasons for the issue, I will really appreciate your feedback!

If they figure out that you modified the stock system, I doubt they will work on it, and certainly not under warranty. So you are taking a financial risk by taking it to a dealer.

I don't want to sound pessimistic, but seems like very long shot that anyone in North America could tell you anything meaningful about your problem. There might be one or two Hyundai engineers in Korea who could explain it, but you won't be able to find them.

These vehicles are flashed or loaded with programming based on their destination and Canada is different from the US as it is also different from Korea.
If you disconnect the new folding mirrors can it be put back to factory mode? If so do the FOBs work as normal?
The dealer can certainly reprogram the FOBs but they may still not work if your wiring mod somehow affects the way the flashed program works.
I haven't been through the Hyundai dealer programmer but there are quite a few things they can do if they are familiar and willing.
It may help to call the Hyundai engineering dept. I had that number but can't find it right now so I would try the main one 1-888-216-2626 and ask for engineering help. You will need your VIN number.
I also PMd you the service manual and you may find the steps though the body electrical section (13).

Thanks, all two of you!

The dealership couldn't resolve the issue, but an idea, that can possibly resolve all the issues I am experiencing, has just popped up from my head.
