  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Second Generation can we read text messages on the screen?

Unfortunately Siri doesn't notify you when you get a response text. You have to take your eyes off the road and constantly check if you got a response. Once you see you have one, you can then use Siri eyes free to read it to you.

If you need to check texts that often, maybe you should not be driving? Otherwise, is it really that big of a deal to ask Siri if you have any new texts periodically.

Not sure if I'm understanding you correctly, but it sounds like you guys, while driving and not taking your eyes off the road, intermittently and randomly use Siri eyes free to have it read your messages to see whether or not you got any texts. So you ask it to read your messages and then it says you have no messages. Do you do this every 5 mins? Every 10?

My point is since the phone rings while its in my pocket when there's a phone call and I can answer it while it's still in my pocket or I can send a text while its in my pocket all using Siri hands free, why is there no chime notification when I receive a text through the system like there's a ringtone when I receive a call? Why do I have to ask her if I have texts? Why doesn't she alert me Ive received one like she alerts me when somebody is calling?

I'm definitely not asking Siri if I have missed calls. I do definitely have to ask her if I have texts and then to read it to me. All I'm asking for is a chime so I know I got one. Then I can elect to have it read to me.

Acura's system alerts you when you have a text and then you can elect to have it read to you also. But at least it alerts you.

Nowadays I text and receive texts much much more than actually talking on the phone. Asking Siri periodically if I have texts is like opening your door periodically to see if people are at your house instead of installing a doorbell.

It is what is is and won't be updated, so just telling you how it works and possible options to deal with it. Unless we actually get CarPlay or Android Auto (pretty doubtful at this point), you can't get what you are asking for. Unlike the phone, there is no actual texting support built into the car so texts won't "ring".

BTW - You actually can get a text chime if you are streaming bluetooth music.

This won't resolve the fact that the car doesn't alert you when you have a text come in, but it is a workaround: if you use an Apple Watch you will get notified via your wrist you have a new text, then use Siri eyes free to read it to you.

If you update to the newest map version 12.5, you now have the ability to receive and message without android auto or CarPlay through stock OEM.

that would be a nice feature... Have the message read out load when your driving..
My daughter has 2020 lincoln nautilus and it reads her texts and asks if she wants to reply.
