  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

the other day it was rather cold in dallas (mid thirties)
i started my car and it shook and sputtered. the check engine light was blinking.
i shut it off, and re-started it. drove OK, no more warning lights. hasn't done anything else in the past 24 hrs.
should i take it in? still got 8.5 years and 95k miles of warranty, its just a PITA to drive to the Hyundai dealer.

So far I had been lucky and not experienced the "Genesis Shake" and have been mostly passing over the big thread but I got the shake today so I suppose I'll have to give it a read. Similar to all the others, cool weather & short run time. I got the engine light and the engine smoothed out after about 45 seconds and the engine light went out.

Mine too (2012 3.8 tech)...after starting one cool morning and driving about 8 miles suddenly there was low rpm shake and flashing "check engine" lite. Called Hyundai and had it towed in. One day later I was told that I had a plugged injector that was replaced (per the Hyundai engineer as my service writer reported). So far so good: no more engine shake and the engine lite is off. I'll report anything changes.

This what I had. It also smelled like unburnt gas and sulfur. There is a TSB for this. Hyundai reflashed the ECU and the car actually runs better and also without any throttle lag. Take it in and they can read the codes. If you can, check out my post on it and I tell what was written up.

Now that you mention it there was quite a smell when my car did is little shaky-shake. If only Wilmington were closer.

mine has not done it again since. i will ask the dealer to look at it at the next oil change

It won't happen often. Mine happen when the car was outside overnight and the temp was in the 30's. You should immediately take it in so they can read the codes. I would not wait until next oil change. Search cold start problem and you should see my post with the dealer fix.
