  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Carfax, damage & accidents? Bargain or time bomb?

Offer $27,700 then he has room to come up to the $28k you want.:)

I know there's a certain gameplay involved in all this, but after they give you the initial offer, why not just say "I'll pay $28k OTD, period. If you can't do that, I'm leaving."

I thought the '15s only had a 3yr/36k bumper-to-bumper warranty, not 5yr/60k.

3/36 on electronics, but everything else is 5/60. Odd and probably why Hyundai extended to 5/60 in subsequent years.

It looks like the electronics are only covered for three years.[/QUOTE

You are using the term "electronics" a bit broadly. Today's cars are loaded with electronics, most of which are covered by the 5 years/60K. Only the radio, entertainment system, GPS, Bluetooth, tape players etc. are at the 3 year level, mostly because they are provided by third party vendors. This is pretty typical in most warranties. Also, many extended warranties exclude these items. Something to check on.

Well i just emailed the dealer my OTD offer for the 2015 - 3.8 - with no extended warranty
ill look at warranty services independent of the dealers and compare prices but im leaning towards not getting one now
Ill know later today if i am the proud owner of a Monticeto blue Genesis -wish me luck

Good luck! If they accept it, can you let us know what you paid?

I would recommend getting a VSC from a reputable company if that's an option, especially if you plan to keep the car for 7 - 10 years. I ended up getting a 8 year, 150k on the odometer bumper 2 bumper warranty through CNA on my CPO 15' Genny. The CPO helps cover the powertrain, but the electronics were close to expired on coverage due to mileage at time of purchase (I had 29k miles when I bought it). The CNA VSC extends everything for the full 8 years and an additional 120k miles. For $1300, it was a no-brainer for me.

Does your warranty transfer?

If not... my CPO Wrap with Platinum coverage for $1698 covers all the high tech electronics, brakes etc bumper-to-bumper for 10/100. Obviously 8 years is better than the 7 I got, but I feel safer knowing it's direct from Hyundai?

looks legit, though it does say to private party. So, trading it in to a dealer may void that option

I suppose everyone has different circumstances... I don't see myself trading it in to a dealer ever unless it becomes some kind of lemon or I need to offload it for some unexpected reason... I've only done private-party buying and selling since I had my first car... once I went to a used car lot but they were so tiny (like 9 cars on the lot) that I kinda consider that a private sale as well.

If I wanted an Ultimate, I'd definitely check them out ("only" a 250 mile drive from here) but I want CarPlay. I'm about to make an offer on a 2015 5.0 base (basically like the 3.8 tech package) from a local dealer. I think the asking price is a bit under $29k, but it's been on the lot for a month. On the other hand, they need to fix a broken headlight ($1000) and it's not CPO, which would be another $500-600 for the inspection. Not sure what I can get it for. I'm ASSUMING they're going to ask $30.5k for the car (plus TTL), but I don't know what a reasonable offer is. I may have to drive down to Ft. Lauderdale again...

Just in case anyone is following my travails, my dealer told me to come on by and we can haggle about the aforementioned 2015 5.0. When I got there, he said that the car (which was currently sitting at a non-Hyundai lot owned by the same company) needed new tires as well as the headlight, so that's $2000 right there. And the CPO process would be more like another $1000, etc. So he said "You don't really want this car, do you?" Now that they know I'm "serious and ready to buy" they're going to actively scout the lease return lists...

For quite a few years, all Hyundai vehicles have had a 5yr/60k new car warranty (what you call bumper-to-bumper), plus a 10yr/100k warranty on the powertrain (engine, transmission, etc). However, the powertrain warranty is only for the original owner, unless the used car is designated as a CPO by the selling dealer.

There are some exceptions to the bumper to bumper to warranty, as explained on the Hyundai website. Prior to 2016, the warranty on the audio/Nav system was only 3yr/36k, but that changed started with 2016 models. There are also exceptions for things like paint, adjustments (alignments, etc), and other typical things that are described on the Hyundai website.

Genesis Motors (starting with 2017) has the same warranty as Hyundai as far as we can tell, but their website has scant information about it.

... it's not CPO, which would be another $500-600 for the inspection.
Dealers usually want about $1000-$1500 more for CPO because it has the 10yr/100k powertrain warranty restored, that is normally only for the original owner. In order to get the CPO designation, the dealer has to pay HMA a fee for the warranty being restored (which is honored at any Hyundai dealer).

The dealer is supposed to do an inspection, but based on a lot of feedback on this forum it is usually not very thorough, although if you find a problem right after purchase they will almost always fix it on a CPO. So after purchase, check things out yourself very carefully to the extent you can.

"For 2015 Hyundai models and earlier, CPO Wrap coverage for navigation, audio, and high-tech components begins upon expiration of Hyundai’s 3-year/36,000 mile factory warranty coverage. For 2016 Hyundai models and newer, coverage for navigation and high-tech components begins upon expiration of Hyundai’s 5-year/60,000 mile factory warranty coverage "

I purchased my 15 5.0 Ultimate from Jim Ellis about a month ago (21K CPO). Was searching high and low for a low mileage 15 5.0 Ultimate in Caspian black, settled for the grey, and very pleased with it. I'd advise staying away from any Carfax warning cars, especially since there are so many clean low mileage unwrecked cars available.

BTW - If looking at Jim Ellis, ask for Stephen Bae! Great Salesman, no pressure nice guy.

Mind if I ask what your final price was? I want a 5.0 base with low mileage, and I'm sure my dealer references Jim Ellis in their pricing.

Send me a PM, and I'll fill you in on my experience. (Evidently I don't have PM rights yet, or too dumb/new to figure it out.)
