  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

CarPlay annoyance!

Go to your dealer...sure someone there has one.

Have you tried another iPhone? Pre-iOS 13?
Yes...my wife hasn’t updated her phone yet. I will ask someone at the dealer before they take the car in

Update on the CarPlay issue...after a whole lot of back and forth and trying to price to the dealer that my phone or cable weren’t causing the issue they replaced the USB port and voila! Seems to be working now 🤞🏽

Ive got all sorts of other issues with carplay like:

- defaulting to my personal media (which is empty) instead of my last used app, like spotify
- crackly audio until I switch modes back and forth using the steering wheel mode button
- frozen/not playing audio until unplugging and plugging back in (timeline on song continues moving with no audio and then once unplugging it the timeline goes back to the original point and plays fine)

These all happen when first plugging my phone in but Ive never had it just stop working during a drive. FrankieD hope you get this figured out but if my experience is anything to go by....skip calling apple. They are no help

... These are my EXACT same issues with the infotainment when using CarPlay. Annoying, but something about switching from one media source to another or unplugging/plugging back always works to fix the bug. Thankfully I do not have the OP issues with repeated disconnections.

Seems the op got this resolved but as a heads up. With iOS 13 it has been discovered that CarPlay will poop out or the screen will go black if you have BOLD text turned on in the display settings.

I have been experiencing this off an on until I found this info on the apple forums. Turned off bold text in the display settings and it hasn’t happened since.

this was discovered in the beta releases for iOS 13. And apparently never addressed. Seems to persist with 13.2 as well.

to offset the bold text I went into the accessibility options and increased the text size.

Another update and not good again. After working for a couple of weeks and all day today CarPlay has stopped working again. Nothing has changed with my phone or cable since they replaced the USB. Another trip to the dealer next week to see what the next set of excuses they give to not help me fix it and try to blame my phone and cable.
How long before enough is enough? Who do I speak to to get this taken care of without all the back and forth?

How does bad software get to be a Genesis issue?

Tim Cook? Most dealers don't have anyone really savvy enough to figure it all out. Apple sets the standards they should be able to tell you if it is the phone or their cable.

It gets to be a Genesis issue when the feature doesn’t work properly in a Genesis.

I’m going to try the dealer again. I may also try Apple and see what they say. I’m so over it lol

I've had similar issues with other cars, not G70 (yet - thankfully).
On my Nissan Maximas (yes, plural), there were USB shorts (mostly USB Type-A - don't know why) that nuked CarPlay while driving.
A third-party USB-C cable (Type C added on 2019 MY that I traded for my G70) actually worked better than my genuine Apple or MFi cables.

What fixed it?
1. The Maxima allowed me to disable/re-enable CarPlay.
2. Restart phone (this isn't optimal and takes 30 seconds).
3. Restart infotainment (Nissan added an EASY way to do this... which should tell you something...)

I have found the CarPlay to be completely buggy as well. I have tried different cables without any real success. I have now reverted to blue tooth to play my music via amazon music etc... for some reason, don’t seem to have many issues using CarPlay for maps, but music and other streaming is a big problem.

I had similar issues. But when CarPlay wouldn’t work. It wouldn’t charge the phone from that USB port either. But it would work on the port inside the side compartment. They changed the USB recently. And since covid I barely used the car. But it hasn’t done it since. Was the USB port for me too.
