  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

CarPlay Coming

CarPlay needs to work without a required wired connection to be truly useful. I hope that is implemented in future releases.

I really could care less if it requires a wired connection - open that "not an ashtray" thing, plug the wire to your phone; when done - unplug hide the wire, close the tray. That's it.

Just bring the damn thing out already! :D

yes. I want CarPlay. Hope they get it available soon!

I was just on the phone with the Equus/Genesis desk at HMA asking about some Bluelink features and the rep confirmed that CarPlay IS coming to existing Genesis and Sonata cars, but she said the date is still unknown. She said owners will be notified when it's available. It's nice to at least have a confirmation that Car Play WILL be available for owners who've previously purchased. I tried to push for a time frame a little and asked if she thought it would be before the end of the year and she said she thought it was likely, but obviously didn't really know. We'll see. :)
Seasons Greeting ! Any word from Santa's Workshop on the timeline for going live with Apple Car Play in existing 2015 Genesis ?

Happy Holidays !

Anyone have an update on the launch of Apple Car Play for existing 2015 Genesis owners ? Would love to have this feature. Maybe Santa can help !
Tis the Season ;)

Spoke with my Hyundai Repair shop two days ago and asked then: guy I deal with - great guy - hadn't heard anything yet and he's a pretty conscientious dude.

That is a Sep 23 article.

Right - but it shows that Apple has backed off on the wider OEM support/availability in 2014 that they had been touting earlier (somewhat specifically). As it's mid December already and there has been no formal communication from Hyundai at all, it's not looking good that we'll see this in 2014 - unless Hyundai is holding it for a Christmas present (doubtful)...

ugh...Not in the 2015 Genesis?

This does not surprise me one bit. A good part of the reason I'm waiting. Now I'm even debating on whether to wait for the mid-cycle refresh for the 10 speed transmission.

Hyundai to debut Display Audio system with Apple’s CarPlay at 2015 CES
Thursday, December 18, 2014 · 2:57 pm ·

Hyundai is doing what the company terms “the unthinkable” at the 2015 Consumer Electronics Show by showing a new Display Audio system with no CD player or embedded navigation system. Display Audio is a high resolution seven-inch color touch-screen display that has been optimized specifically for enhanced smartphone integrations and the latest generation Blue Link system. iPhone owners can use Apple CarPlay to take the familiar features from their iPhones and put them right on the touch-screen display while driving. “Android Auto” brings the Android experience into the car by ‘projecting’ apps and services into the Display Audio system.
Display Audio launches on select 2016 Hyundai models and will quickly become Hyundai’s volume head unit. Hyundai will eventually bring the new infotainment system to all of its entry-level models in order to provide the best streaming multimedia and ownership experience possible. Display Audio combines the best of phone-based connectivity technologies with Blue Link, which provides features that are that are only possible with an embedded telematics system such as remote engine start and automatic collision notification. Hyundai’s exhibit (North Hall, booth #2818) at CES will be open Jan. 6-9, 2015.

“Hyundai will offer more technology than ever before inside affordable Hyundai models, allowing owners not only to text message through voice commands and stream their favorite music apps, but also to make calls in a safer way, and navigate using phone-based, off-board navigation through the car’s screen and controls,” said Cason Grover, senior group manager, cross-carline planning, Hyundai Motor America, in a statement. “As affordable car buyers are often younger, Hyundai aims to provide what they want most in their car – all the latest smartphone-enabled technologies at a lower price.”

The Display Audio system brings the newest smartphone integrations into Hyundai vehicles using an easy-to-access USB port. Once the connection is made, users can access their smartphone for phone calls and contacts, music, navigation, messaging, and optimized third-party apps. Display Audio will have navigation capability through smartphone integrations and will also offer entertainment apps for music, news, sports, and Podcasts. Apple CarPlay offers third-party audio app support, such as Beats Music, iHeart Radio, MLB At Bat, Spotify, Stitcher, CBS Radio News and Podcasts, among others. Android Auto’s initial app roster includes iHeart Radio, MLB At Bat, Spotify, SoundCloud, Pandora, TextMe and WhatsApp. Each partner plans to add additional third-party apps in the future and these will not require any vehicle software updates.

The Display Audio system will also incorporate Hyundai’s latest in-vehicle technology by offering a simple, multi-use home screen, HD Radio capability and mixed AM, FM and SiriusXM presets.

Additional Display Audio infotainment system features:

• Integration with Apple’s Siri-powered “Eyes Free” mode
• Functionality allows owners of compatible vehicles to use the voice command button on the steering wheel to ask Siri questions without taking their eyes off the road
• Siri Eyes Free supports making calls, selecting and playing music, composing and reading back test messages, using Maps and getting directions, reading notifications, finding calendar information, adding reminders, among other functions
• Integration with Google’s voice actions and predictive Google Now functionality
• Pandora integration with smartphone
• SiriusXM Satellite Radio with enhanced features
• SiriusXM Traffic and Travel Link
• Traffic flow data in major markets, 24/7 traffic incidents and alerts
• Sports scores and schedules, stock ticker, movie times, fuel prices and weather/alerts
• Advanced voice recognition
• Swipe technology
• Music, video and picture storage
• New home screen with multiple functions
• Functionality brings drivers relevant information like local weather, upcoming appointments and current traffic conditions
• Pause, back and play for current station
• Automatic recording of top six presets

oh well... I dont have it now so I wont miss it later :)

I am holding off on upgrading my 2012 genesis to a 2015 AWD until Apple CarPlay is release on the 2015 as a simple upgrade otherwise I will wait until the Genesis 2015 with CarPlay is at dealers.

Now that cars are semi-officially "technology" products there's always a next big thing coming in 6 months or a year.

Its cheaper for the manufacturers than changing the styling, as they used to do.

As with other technology products, the actual user experience is only incrementally improved and usually has some downsides associated that aren't always made known.

For things like Car Play and Apple Play you need an unlimited data plan and very reliable service. Sometimes they are limited in how many things you can do at once, like navigate and listen to the radio or an MP3.

I don't know how much benefit you get from a 10 speed transmission over an 8 speed. Perhaps 1-2 miles per gallon, if that.

When you are ready to buy, buy and don't worry about minor features that have limited impact on the user experience. Now I wouldn't call going from a 2012 to 2015 a minor improvement. Its huge.

I am still going to hold out some hope. Looking at the press release, they did not say they were not going to update the existing head units. The sample pictures look like they will be using a similar platform/firmware/software. But as Jimb100 stated, this did not stop me form purchasing the 2015. I waited since Gen1 and many times I almost pulled the trigger but glad I am did with the gen2.

We will see.

According to my dealer, from the Hyundai trainer who was in their office last week was still stating that it is still coming to the current 2015 Genesis and will be a firmware update to add it.

They are currently pushing it to the latest Sonata's and they are training dealers on how to use the display.

No date on when it will be available but the source was a trainer from Hyundai so at least it is some news...
