  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

CarPlay Coming

I was just on the phone with the Equus/Genesis desk at HMA asking about some Bluelink features and the rep confirmed that CarPlay IS coming to existing Genesis and Sonata cars, but she said the date is still unknown. She said owners will be notified when it's available. It's nice to at least have a confirmation that Car Play WILL be available for owners who've previously purchased. I tried to push for a time frame a little and asked if she thought it would be before the end of the year and she said she thought it was likely, but obviously didn't really know. We'll see. :)

I just talked to the Equus/Genesis desk again and received essentially the same message as before (October 2014). Sadly, no real progress from Hyundai Corporate. They did say their announcement said Sonatas would be retrofitted but didn't mention Genesis. Hmmm - we hurry up and wait some more, I guess. :)

Just had my initial chat with BlueLink tonight. I asked if he knew anything about CarPlay/Android Auto. He assured me that it was coming to my 2015 Genesis but no solid dates have been announced. So no new news, but at least he seemed sure it is on it's way.

I just returned from getting my oil changed at the dealer and asked the service advisor about the coming of CarPlay and he confirmed that it IS coming "by June". It will be retro-fittable and he said that he was told it would be here in the second quarter of this year. I asked if owners would be informed when it was available and he said no - we will just have to keep asking. My guess is that we here on the forum will probably know earlier than some of the dealers, so stay tuned. :)

Thanks for the update ckon

I wrote to Hyudai's PR people and asked about Car Play. Someone wrote back almost immediately. He told me that it would come to Sonata first. I also asked if it could be made available for 2015 without a hardware upgrade. He responded, "Genesis has a head unit that is compatible with CarPlay."

I read this to mean they could do a software upgrade but are not pre-committed to doing so.

It makes you wonder what the reasoning is that's guiding their decisions. One thing I wonder about is that the Genny models have two different systems and I wonder if that will influence their decision.

Guesses by techs, dealer sales, show staff and help desk staff are notoriously unreliable when it comes to these things. Implementation of CarPlay depends on other third parties (ex. Apple) and that alone can make timing impossible to target. I think we basically know as much as we knew early last year.

There is a tendency when not in the know, for staff to say, "it's coming soon", but the fact is it will be here when it is here. For those for whom it is a critical feature, waiting is always be an option. For those who plan on an upgrade, it is best to assume it will not happen and be surprised some day if it is. Generally, these enhancements may not be upgradeable if they involve time and money and satisfying current buyers is usually not as important as getting new buyers in the industry - in the end it is about money.

You are right. The Limited Sonata and all Genesis trim other then ultimate package use the same head unit. I think if sonatas are getting it first we would get it too. Now the ultimate package is unique I guess they will have to wait.

Sent and email after reading the news release for the new display units asking if the Genesis would get an update for Carplay.

This article says that ONLY the '15 Sonata will get CarPlay upgrade, per Hyundai a spokesperson. In other words, current Genesis owners may be SOL.

I was concerned this would happen. Now the question is, will it be ready by 2016? Waiting until early fall (or whenever the 2016s are available) is very tough.

Just went to Chicago Auto Show and Car Play was featured in live demo in 2015 Sonota. I hooked up my iphone 6plus and via Siri texted my contacts, asked trivia questions and directions. Worked fantastic - even better than on my iphone for some strange reason.

Was told by detroit reps at auto show Car Play will be available for free on the 2015 Genesis- but it will require a software upgrade - already wired in 2015 Genesis.

First launch to Sonota - then will available on existing 2015 Genesis.
Estimated time frame April - May 2015.
Owners will need to contact dealer and request software upgrade.

Genesis owners lets rally :grouphug:& keep on Hyundai corporate and our local dealers to be sure this happens - believe me t this is an awesome feature. We want this :)

I would be wary of a show staffer who gives out information at conflict with other sources which also quote Hyundai spokespeople. CarPlay has been a moving target and until an announcement is made officially by Hyundai, it's possibility in the 2015 car is not any closer than almost a year ago.
