If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Carwow comparison

$3K?! Such a huge price difference between our markets. It was only $1K usd for that option here.

Sorry, I meant that is what it would cost to order from Korea. Not sure what would be required to get it connected.

Oh gotcha. I wish they would have built an "N" equivalent. Would give the car more character and would probably embarass the established players more.

I am not mistaken. Like I said, my car has a FULL 3D digital instrument cluster. I am not referring to a multi-information display, TFT cluster, or anything else a manufacturer might call it.

Unfortunately, I'm having issues with Vimeo with uploading video. So it might be hard to see the 3D effect. The 2 purple dots that you see are eyes, one for each eyeball. No glasses needed and you can turn the effect on and off. No big deal though, here's a pic:
Correct. I have it also. It was a $1,000 option on my fully loaded 3.3 Sport, Prestige.

Oh, so it was optional even on the top-of-the-line trim. That explains it. I've never seen one here, so figured it was a Korean market car if all digital. But I have to say it looks really weird; I probably prefer my crappy dash over that. Ha ha. But the full digital on my '22 Santa Fe Calligraphy is awesome, since it looks like regular analog gauges with no circles in the middle (hate that), and you can change it in many ways. Thank you for the explanation.

I'll like tech but I don't know, still need some analog gauges in a sports car for it to feel like a sports car IMO.

But I'm old.

Reality is that it's time for the G70 to get a significant update. The difference between the 2019 and 2023 is very little other then exterior styling. When I look at the interiors of the Audi, BMW and Merc - they are another level in my view. I still love my G70 but those cars have been updated and left the G70 behind. The 2.0T in the G70 is fine but doesn't compete with the others either. It needs more power and/or a hybrid system...I drove one the other day and there's no excitement. The Hyundai Ns are all much better already.

Again, still love the G70 but Genesis, it's time....

The Stinger has the new 2.5T engine since '22, I believe. But for sure for '23, and my '23 G70, still has the old (and dated) 2.0T. And I thought Genesis was the 'premium' brand, not Kia. Ha ha. And even the equally old Kona got the full digital dash, and the G70 didn't. Oh, and Genesis deleted the 'Elite' package on the 2.0T, so no more HUD, Napa, 360, etc. on the top of the line 2.0T, which I got. No wonder sales are in the toilet. Oh well. Still like the car, but with the added 2 grand to the MSRP, is hardly a great value anymore. My wife liked it's 184" long, just like her ex-'21 Tesla M3 LR, but for most people, it's too cramped. My guess is with the added 2 grand to the MSRP, it's going to sell even worse than before. We'll see.

An update is in the works by way of a 2nd refresh.

Figure that will entail the powertrain upgrades (2.5T and 3.5TT, but no hybrid) and likely a fairly extensive redone interior w/ tech upgrades.

B/c it will be a 2nd refresh, doubt we're going too see much of any improvements to rear passenger leg/foot and trunk/boot space.

A 2G G70 will be an EV and is slated for around 2027; a new Kia EV fastback is also slated for around that time, which will be the real successor to the Stinger (and not the EV6)

They have a regular analog display as well. It's completely customizable. The G70 display is better than what comes in the Hyundais. Both the Santa Fe and the nicer Palisade.

From what I hear, powertrain is going to stay the same. No upgrade. I hope I'm wrong, but from a cost perspective it just doesn't make sense for Genesis to make big changes to a car that won't even be sold new after 3 years.

Tbh, I'm fine with the motor. Updated interior would be great, but probably still not enough to get me to buy. If they did some "special editions" though, that would do it for me. An actual track-focused variant or something that Genesis could compete in motorsports. We have nothing for the AMGs, Ms, and RSs that are out there. But that's just me.

If true, that would be odd, since HMG already developed the 2.5T and 3.5TT, so they mind as well use them (may be true for the Euro and other markets which tax based on displacement).

They've already passed on those motors once before. I think they are just going to get rid of their remaining 3.3T and 2.0T motors and that's when they'll stop making the cars.

I don't disagree with you on that, but automakers usually aren't looking to go all-electric either.

It doesn't really matter for me what they decide as far as a motor. If they do "send-off" cars, I'll be interested. Otherwise, the car is irrelevant for me.

That ignores the point that the Stinger got the bigger engine and that the more “upscale” Genesis did not. The Stinger and G70 both came out, and got refreshes, at the same time.

Your point about knowing it will get a second refresh makes no sense. I don’t see the Kia folks giving it a first refresh I’d they knew it was only going to be around another year or two.

It's about target demographics? I would suggest reasoning as the following.

The people buying a Stinger with the 2.5T are doing so cause they want performance but not the added cost for the 3.3T. Also he 300hp in teh 2.5 places it in a more competitive playground.

G70 customers looking at the 2.0T are in it for the style of the car not the performance.

That’s a real head scratcher. If that is so, then why are we having this conversation?

I doubt there will be a second refresh either, the only place I saw it mentioned was the Korean Car Blog which more often then not gets this information wrong. They claimed the refresh would be unveiled this summer, yet so far we don't see any spy shots of a test model like we do with say, the GV80 refresh.

The current G70 is at the end of its life and will most likely be replaced in 2025 by an EV, based on the Hyundai Ioniq 6. Same with the Stinger.

Exactly, and it's the same freaking platform. And the Genesis is also supposed to be the sportier version. My '23 2.0T Sport Prestige has very little 'sport'. Ha ha. Plus it's a dated engine, just like the car. The new 2.5T has dual injection now, and I bet that even with more power, it'd probably have the same mileage figures. Oh well. And I'd also be extremely surprised if there's a redesign, but it's always possible.

Kia pretty much knew that the Stinger wasn't going to be around for much longer, at least in its current iteration (there are plans for a new EV fastback circa 2027 or so).

The Stinger was going to be discontinued once the hybrid variant of the Carnival was ready to go, as the hybrid Carnival is taking over the Stinger's production line.

The refreshed Stinger went on sale during the Fall of 2020 in Korea (early 2021 here), so when it goes out of production later this year, that will be 3 years on the market - which is actually a little longer than the norm for a refresh for a HMG product.

TKCB has been wrong when they predicted what engines would be available for the latest round of Genesis products (TKB evidently wasn't aware of the development of the 2.5T and 3.5TT engines, but then again, major US auto pubs like C/D and MT weren't either), but the info TKCB gets from Korean publications has been fairly accurate (most of the wrong info being timetable related).

Case in point, the Stinger being discontinued for the Carnival hybrid.

That part of the reporting was accurate, but it just took longer than what the original sources were reporting (they thought the hybrid Carnival would roll out a year or 2 after the ICE version, but Kia ended up waiting until the refresh).

According to a Kia Europe upcoming model timeline doc, the new Kia EV fastback is due around 2027, so the EV G70 will likely have a similar timeline.

The G70 can't go another 4.5 yrs w/o some sort of an update.

If they aren't going to do another update, mind as well put the G70 on hiatus (until the new EV version) so can use the production line to build more GV70s or GV80s.

Not sure where you're getting that. Kia Europe says they'll have 14 BEV models by 2027, and plan to launch at least two each year up until then.

I highly, highly doubt that HMG is going to let the Ioniq 6 sit by itself for 4 whole years, which is an eternity in EV development time. I guarantee you that there will be no G70 refresh because we would already see spyshots by now. We're going straight to a new EV model.

KCB's "Stinger will die" prediction was also wrong (like pretty much any other piece of speculation they throw out) because it ended its six-year production cycle in a normal manner. It's not unusual for a model to take 1 or even 2 years on hiatus before another generation comes out. If anything, the Stinger capping its life cycle next year is further proof that the same thing will happen soon to the current G70 that it shares most of its internals with.
