Center High Mount Stop Light

My 2010 4.6 with about 66k miles was flagged by a passing motorist that Center High Mount Stop Light (aka 3rd Brake Light) is not lighting.

Is it true that assembly needs to be replaced rather than a burnt "bulb"?

Called the dealer parts department and was told the whole assembly (Hyundai part number 927003M010BR) needs to be ordered at a whopping cost of $164 plus sales tax.

Did any member have to replace their 3rd Brake Light?

There was a recall notice to replace a potentially faulty brake switch which may affect the third brake light. I had my replaced approximately a year ago.

Upon inspection, it turns out all 3 brake lights are not operating. Took the car to the dealer this morning without appointment. The service advisor knew right away the culprit is the "DIODE." Had the diode replaced in 2013 at 52k under warranty and didn't realize the DIODE again was the issue.

Although the car is out of warranty, the dealer replaced the diode for free and washed the car.

I hope Hyundai engineers realize that DIODE is a major design flaw.
