  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've been looking at the HMA Service manuals for awhile now, and I THINK I know what to do here, but I thought I'd run this by the experts.

I want to change out the 5W lamps that are in the door bottoms and under the dash at the feet. I have ordered DE3175 LED replacements. NOW... getting to the sockets.

For the doors, it looks like I have to remove the top trim piece (above the window), and then snap out the entire bottom door cover piece (while removing 2 screws). I tried simply popping out the white covers on the door bottoms, but no go.

For the passenger foot light, looks like I need to take off the right 'end cap' from the 'crash pod', remove the glove box via its screws, then lower the under dash cover after removing its screws. The driver's foot light access looks to be similar.

Does this sound right??

You dont have to remove the door panels to get to the lights. Just take a flat head screw driver and gently pry underneath the front part of the clear plastic, this is where the lens clamps in. If you pry at the back of the plastic that is where the hooks are and it wont work.

I ordered some super white LEDs from superbrightleds.com and also some Polarg M4 bulbs. I am going to install both and see how they work. I will include pics if anyone is interested

I am very interested in PICs and the exact part numbers.

Cheers

Thomas

This will be a good bulb replacement mod. Please provide pics of "How to's" as this will avoid redundant questions. I will be doing this mod once I get my Genesis.

Thanks for contributing to the community. :)

As soon as the bulbs come in I will be installing them and will post pics on how to remove the lights. This is my wifes car but she is slowly but surely allowing me to mod it:D

Thanks SO much!. Like the others, I'll love to see your pics. My lights should be in Friday and I'll try to get pics as well. I DID try prying off the lens already, and it wouldn't budge. BUT... I'll take your word for it and try it again.

you are talking about the lights under the door that light up the ground whenever you open the door right?

Yes- the lights under both the passenger and driver doors that light the ground when the door is opened.

ALSO- the lights in the cabin that light the feet area. All of them are 5watt and really need to be much more than that. The LED versions I have coming will be about 3 times as bright and if I can fit it in, there are ones that will be about 6 times as bright.

SLIM replacements- http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/Product/fp/vpid/5913212/vpcsid/0/SFV/32481

BIG replacements- http://www.v-leds.com/Shop/Control/Product/fp/vpid/5767433/vpcsid/0/SFV/32481

I have not gotten the clear covers off yet, BUT, from the bulb nomenclature in other places on the car, I'm 99% sure that the above bulbs will work. I'll know for sure in a few days.

LAST- I just got in my LED door sills (scuff plates). The ones that light up "GENESIS" from under the sills. This is the same door sills that come on the V8. One piece at a time, I'm turning my V6 into a V8! Next, I'll get letters for the back that will say (under the chrome GENESIS)- V12x.5

I have seen the footwell lights on the KAI site and they look to be much brighter than the oem bulbs, but almost too bright. I look forward to seeing the lights you use in your footwells

The lights in the foot area are a different form factor with a bajonet base. There is vert little space in the box they are mounted.

I'd be interested how you end up with those.

Cheers

Thomas

Ok here are the pics for removing the lights at the base of the doors.

Here is the light in the front drivers side door:

Here is where you begin to gently pry to loosen the lens:

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
With a little steady pressure and working the lens out slowly it will pop out like this:

And here it is all the way out of the door:

You can see on this pic on the left side of the lens the little clamp that sticks out, when I first removed the lens it was on the right side, this is the side you want to work on with the screwdriver. If you look at the right side of this pic you will see the little plastic hooks that come out and hold securely in place. These were on the left side when I originally took the lens off and I dont think it would be a good idea trying to pry on that side.

There is a little clamp that holds the bulb housing to the harness, just push on that and it will come off. Then twist the clear lens and it will come off the bulb housing, and then I used a small flathead screw driver to push the bulb out, you do this by pushing in the gap between the two copper contacts in this picture:

Hope the pics help, let me know if you need any help

I will look at the footwell lights hopefully this weekend and see what needs to be done there, but I thought the light output from them was perfect. I will also be doing the license plate lights and the trunk lights.

Good pic Rich! Thank you for posting them up.

Looking forward to seeing final project done :)

By then, it would merit a Sticky ;)

The bulb is just a 168 wedge type bulb. You can either use a Polarg M4 bulb or use an LED type bulb as long as it says it will work with 168 Wedge bulbs. There are many LED companies out there but I have had the best luck superbrightleds.com

Hey Rich- Perfect man! AND... wouldn't you know it, last evening I got my nimble 19yr old to get under there and pry out the holders the exact same way and I learned the exact same thing! Excellent job.

We did go ahead and pry off the foot well covers (while I had him in the garage) and learned that the same bulbs are used there. The only difference was that Hyundai has a light blue cover over the bulb to tint it and to darken it. Too dark for my taste.

I have ordered about 3 variations of HID LED bulbs with the proper fittings for those sockets. Why the variations? As you can see from Rich's pictures, there's not a whole lot of extra room there. Same for the foot wells (but it is a little more room). I've looked at the measurements on all of the bulbs that are coming and they appear that they will fit. As Rich says, the bulbs that are stock are commly called 168 or 194 or 158 incandescent wedge bulbs. It's a very common automotive bulb that used on lots of license plates (but not the Genesis). You can see some of the many variants here---
https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_?url=search-alias=automotive&field-keywords=v-led+168 When buying, remember that there are 4 door lights (one on each of the 4 doors).

BTW- I DID put the lighted skuff plates on last night. 5min. job and they look GREAT!

Thanks again Rich!!

Your welcome Phil, and thank you for the great info on the LEDs you ordered, cant wait to see which ones work out best for you. Now I have a ? for you. How hard were the lighted scuff plates to install and where did you have to tap into for power? Besides changing the license plate lights and trunk lights this is next on my agenda. Also if you could tell me where you ordered from that would be great.
