Those are people that have no idea what they're doing. All my flacs are from CDs. In terms of your upscaler used to make 5.1 wavs, that is a matter of software. The software you use for making 5.1 uses some algorithm and the software of the car player also uses some algorithm. What actually sounds better is extremely subjective and will be different for each person. I would never upscale stereo to 5.1. In my car I keep surround off and the car distributes left on all left speakers, right on all right speakers, mixes the center and cut's the lows and sends them to the sub. That is exactly what I do at home too. Upscaled stereo music sounds horrible and completely different than how it should for me personally. I have been an audiophile for a long time and I am also a software and network engineer thus have seen how the upscaling algorithms work.
