  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have had my 2012 Genesis Sedan 3.8 liter for 6 months now and I am very happy, except for one thing. The Check engine light has come on now 4 times. I have taken it in to the dealership and they first told me it was my fault that I did not put the cap on correctly and then reset the engine light. about 2 hours down the road the light came on again. I took it back and they said a sensor had gone bad so they replaced. Around 3 days later the light came on again. So I took it back and they replaced another sensor. Now around 2 weeks later the check engine light came on again. I called and set up an appointment to get it checked out. The light went off on the day I was to take it in. So I thought it was over. Guess what the Ghost Check engine light has come back.

Has anyone else had any issues with the check engine light? This is getting a little tiring. Nothing wrong with the performance per say, just the idiot light is driving this idiot crasy. Any Help?

I've got a check engine light currently, it does not go away. A shop read the code for me and it's an issue with a solenoid.

It is probably the vent solenoid. When you shut the car off it is to vent the gas tank. When you start it, it pressurizes the the tank for the injection system. If it does not vent and sticks it throws a code. When you open your gas tank you will have a hissing sound. That is the vent is stuck closed. It is by the charcoal canister under the car by the fill up to the tank.

After a new engine was put in my gen after some water damage, my CEL light went on and it was something with the battery. After they fixed it, it was still lit up and now they said it was 2 loose connections connections to sensors under the engine. they fixed that and it was STILL on saying that there was water in my fuel sensor (I had water damage but it was nowhere near the fuel sensor).

I find it very strange that all 3 of those codes came on separately instead of all together. is that normal?

Oh, sorry for jacking your thread. :)

One code can relate to others. So if you have a code, lets say O2 sensor it could mean 3 to 4 others possible problems or false codes. A good tech can normally get right the first time. But under warranty the dealer makes money from the car company. enough said

My 2012 3.8 has had the same problem. It has been at the dealer for ~10 days now without a fix. They replaced sensors and hoses so far, but light is still on. They have conversed with Hyundai corporate and are now waiting on a replacement canister they hope will solve the issue.

Have had my 2012 4.6 for two weeks. The CEL came on at about 200 miles.
I took it to the dealer, where they asked if I had recently filled the tank and possibly not tightly secured the gas cap. Nope, she was still running on her first fill up. They re-flashed it and we have added another 300 miles to the clock without incident. Road trip on Thursday, fingers crossed.
By the way, we came from a BMW 525ti and absolutely love our Genesis. Did the rebadge and now need to figure out how to plug the three screw holes created by the front license plate mount.

I had a couple of instances where the CEL came on, which my dealer said was a result of my not replacing the gas cap properly. That led to this thread, which included a discussion of how to put the cap on. FWIW, since then, I've been applying pressure as I turn the gas cap clockwise until it clicks once, and the CEL has stayed off. I realize that there are other causes, but hopefully this will help someone.

Ok Guys took my Genny back in for the Check Engine Light and they seemed to have found the problem. It seems that from the factory that the charcoal in the Charcoal Canister can crack and break upon shipment. They had a simular issue as mine which they had solved by replacing the Charcoal cannister and filter. So This has been done and so far so good the CEL has not come back on. based on the check engine light coming off and on. this last time. i.e. some charcol coming off and clogging the sensors and filter assembly. The boys over at Keith Hawthorne in Charlotte have been busting their tails trying to get this resolved. I hope this will be of some help to all of the others that are seeing this issue. :):)
