Choice between 2011 Infiniti M37 with 140,000 miles or 2012 Hyundai Genesis 3.8 with 170,000 miles

I've been in a serious dilemma with choosing which car to buy, my boss says Infiniti due to reliability though I thought the genesis would be more reliable. What are everyone's choices with which car is good with speed, low maintenance and reliability, I'll be putting synthetic oil and premium gas?

Synthetic may help, but premium gas would be a waste. It won't make the engine last any longer. Matters more what was used in the past versus what you use in the future.

More important than the miles is how they were driven. If one had a lot of short trips in cold weather, too long between oil changes,lots of fast start driving, it may have more wear than a car with double the miles.

No one here can give a definitive answer between two cars we know nothing about. Friend of mine had a similar Infiniti and with 75000 miles the second transmission was on the way out. Does that mean they all have bad trannys? No, it means one car did. Keep in mind, many engines can go to 200k with no problems, but some high miles will go long before that and it is not easy to tell which is which.

High mile cars, especially with no warranty, are a crap shoot. Keep in mind, there are only so many starts in a starter, so many revolutions in and alternator or water pump so be prepared that anything can happen. No matter your decision, make sure not to overpay and be prepared for some expenses.

Ferrying passengers?
Is the car being paid for? Mileage? Monthly?
Is luxury important?
Is reliability important?
What are the consequences of a breakdown? Rental?
How many miles a year will you be driving this car?
How long do you plan to keep it?
Do you do your own mechanical work on vehicles? Major? Maintenance only?
Do you have a shop in mind for your mechanical work?

...I have 2003 Honda accord with 378,000 miles has lasted me a long time with little defects but its near its end life.

...I have 2003 Honda accord with 378,000 miles has lasted me a long time with little defects but its near its end life.

Although I don't know your financial situation or real expectations I would be remiss not to mention you are a working college student likely with better things to do with your money than put it into car repairs.
Congrats on getting your Accord to 378,000 miles and I'm guessing you may like to repeat that record. With that in mind the odds on favorites are the same type of vehicle from Honda/Acura, Toyota/Lexus or even Nissan/Infiniti.
Vehicles like the Genesis are of such low production that even the dealers have difficulty sorting out some major issues and there seem to be relatively few people to work on these that have any specific experience. This is the busiest Genesis forum and most questions that are repair oriented generally glossed over, fall on deaf ears or repeat rumors so in the end any real mechanical help is almost non existent. Compare that to a Honda or VW forum and you'd have untold help. One more thing that may be of interest to a college guy is there are no known aftermarket replacements for the stock stereo in the Genesis so you are basically stuck with what's in it now.
Bottom line from a 70 yo guy who already sent 5 through school and now working on grandkids: buy something with the lowest mileage possible in the Honda/Toyota zone, enjoy your school/job and buy the car of your dreams after you graduate debt free.

honest to god, dont do it.....these cars although reliable but you could get a crappy one and paying for parts and labor is not fun, they are classify as luxury sedan

Really wish I saw this before I bought the car, 2 days to late.. Now car has issues. Very disappointed in the car and dealer.

Sooo I bought a 2012 Genesis last week with 174K Miles..I heard the warnings but still bought it.
