  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Uggo!

Okay, my chrome trims came in today. I messed up and didn't order them from vip_snow on eBay, but still got them cheaper than if I had ordered from the dealer; should have read through this post better, as I've ordered other parts for my Sonata, Genesis Coupe and the Genesis Sedan from him. BIG FAIL on my part, lol!

In reading through this post, even though it is explained how to remove and replace, I was still a little apprehensive, so I took pictures to make it easier for others in the future.

I found it easy to just open the front door and then "peel" the rear door trim by hand then just repeat the process for the front door. It takes a little finger squeezing to get your finger in there initially but afterwards just be gentle and peel the trim back slowly. It will pop right out leaving the "stays/clips" in the door.

Then as stated, just give the "stays/clips" a 1/4 turn and they will come right out!

Wipe the door clean and get ready to install the new trim piece.

To install the trim pieces, all you have to do is remove the adhesive strips, line them up with the existing holes in the door and push, applying pressure at the top and ends where the adhesive is, then pulling the protective plastic coating off.

This is one of the easiest and most inexpensive modifications you can do, that will give your car a more expensive look!!!

Wow great pics and process:cool: Maybe I can find some black ones for myself:cool:

Nice pics, Silver Gen. This is definitely an easy upgrade with a big appearance bang for the buck. Still, I think you would've found it easier if you had used a plastic kitchen spatula, or pancake turner, as a pry bar.

PMCErnie, I didn't want to risk any damage using something that could scratch or mar the surface of the paint, which even a plastic kitchen utensil can do! ;)

Thanks to this thread and to Silver Gen's pictures, I was able to install this my self within 10 minutes. I didn't think it would be that easy! All I used was a cake icing spatula and it was easy to come right off. Wow what a difference it made to my black Genesis, I love it!

Thank you guys!

I think this is the biggest Bang for the Buck exterior DYI improvement that any Genesis owner can make. Free labor and about $150 in parts. I got a quote from a local body shop for at least $500. "A fool and his money are soon parted."

great job on the trim...

I have a question for the members that have done this mod, the new chrome trimming is it only held in place via clips, or is there also 3M tape?

Robo, it's a combination of both. If you look at my pictures, you'll see the "clips" along with the places where the 3M tape is.

Thank you, I wonder if the 3M DST is truly needed as the OEM parts do not have it.

The tape is part of the OEM chrome trim parts package. It is pre-attached to the trim. It is intended to be used to attach the trim. Why would you remove it?

Gotta tell ya….not a big fan of chrome. I would actually be doing the opposite taking off the chrome strip off and replacing with a body color one. Fortunately that’s not necessary. Would like the lighted door strips tough.
Of course it’s all personal taste.

+1

I'd like to get a set of black one's to match my paint.

Thanks for the pics - I have to get a set of the chromes soon, to offset my black too - now that the spring has arrived, in PA, I may do this Chrome Strip in the next week or so - I'll have a set of blacks if anyone wants them :)

Has anyone out there purchased any chrome side trim lately? If so, from where? I'm looking for about how much I should pay. It would appear that the prices have risen significantly since some of the earlier posts. Also, does anyone know what the difference is between the OEM chrome and the aftermarket?
