Question for people with paint or clear coat problems.....Does the car sit outside, of is it garage kept????
I have a 2015 Genesis Coupe 3.8 ultimate in pearl white with 26,000 miles and just a little over a month left on my warranty. this is the second time my clear coat has peeled the first time Hyundai fixed it this time they said no that it was probably a rock chip that caused it.. well there's several places where there's no Rock chips that's peeling. this is the first and last Hyundai I will ever buy.Clear coat peeling, YES!!!! My 2011 Genesis, White, clear coat turns yellowish, then it blisters up and peels leaving a dull white color plastic, which I think is the base coat for the paint, which is a three coat process to paint. Most of my peeling is on plastic parts, however, I am noticing that the paint around the door openings is beginning to flake and peel off.... MANY OTHER MEMBERS OF THIS FORUM ARE GIVING HYUNDAI A PASS ON THEIR POOR QUALITY PAINT....BUT, I AM NOT ONE OF THEM. The paint should reasonably last longer than 3 years..... A service manager at my dealer, mentioned that he has seen this on several other white Genesis vehicles.... the factory has not covered any of them after their 3 year warrantee has expired....

We have owned Ford, Chevy, Dodge Nissan, Hondas and never had our clear coat peel never...

I can understand you'd not be happy, but it is far from the norm. I'm on my fifth Hyundai/Genesis product and one reason I bought them is the quality of the paint. You're choice, of course, but you may miss out on some great cars with good value.
This is Horrible! So many people with the same issues and Hyundai failing as a Manufacturer with no response. I really like my 2016 Genesis 3.8 although the clear coat peeling problem sucks just like the service department! I just took my car in for several items and I have had so many issues with service I am now just doing it myself! Last brake service w/new pads & Rotors 20k miles ago at the dealership in Seaside was a fail. I was getting front end shutter from the warped rotors, so rather that pay them another $1800.00 to do it again, I decided to do it myself. So, I then thought since I am going to do this why not just upgrade the parts and save some money. So I went to Summit Racing and purchased the Powerstop K7029 break kit front & rear performance rotors & carbon fiber pads $520.00. It took me a couple hours to do and totally worth it. When I removed the old front end pads I realized what the problem was, and found out that the dealer installed the wrong pads in the front which was cause of the problem. Knuckleheads! The last oil changed I did at the dealer, I left with a check engine light on and 2 quarts shy of the dipstick having any oil on it, as well as my windshield washer hose pulled off of the feed box and spraying washer fluid into the engine department (Over it!). Results: I will just wrench the car myself, stay happy and not purchase any new vehicles from Hyundai again. Next project, repaint the front end and rear bumper with a skilled auto-body shop, and if my engine has any issues, I will just rebuild it myself and they can Eat Beans or Pound Sand, whatever!I can understand you'd not be happy, but it is far from the norm. YesThe clearcoat on my 2014 was peeling bad over the years...more like sandblasted off due to extreme 197K miles of driving, Minor fender bender after 43 years of accident free driving and I now have a fresh new smiling front end. The back area of the bumper cover is where the trunk meets is peeling and the right side has a yellowish tinge.
I had a slight collision (first time in 43 years of driving) in February 2023, just barely tapped the vehicle in front of me. My shop installed a new bumper cover, painted to match and sprayed my hood. Perfect match and what a "facelift". Not sure what I will do about the minor yellowing of the rear bumper cover? Now at 202K+ miles. What year is your Genesis, Ambush?Yes
Hyundai dropped the ball on the white genesis. This yellow stuff on the hood and rear is crazy! I swapped hoods from a wrecked one (4.6 with the wings which I dont care for) and now it is turning yellow. Guess what I am going to do, order a quart of tri-coat kit and respray it. A full paint job I have been quoted is around $3500 to start. NOPE not with 229k miles on it.

Yes and I have a 2013 3.8. It started on both of my mirrors. I had both repainted. Like you, the rest of the car is great.I'm wondering if anyone else is having problems with the clear coat peeling on their 2011 Genesis Sedans. Mine is the 4.6 in white and the clear coat has started to peel below the passenger side fog light and on the lip of the flat panel where the trunk lid closes. I also noticed it came off of the rear bumper dress strip. The finish everywhere else still looks showroom new. I haven't found a relevant TSB on the problem but I keep looking. Any help is appreciated.
