If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi All,

I've been lurking for a while, but finally decided to sign up today.

I have a 2016 3.8 Ultimate in Empire State Gray / Ivory interior. Now that that's out of the way...

I hear a very obnoxious clicking noise when I drive over bumps / rough patches of road, seemingly emanating from my rear view mirror (or the general area).

The clicking seems to be more prevalent when the car has been in the heat for a while, and usually dissipates when the AC has been on for a while, but it will click even when the car is nice and cool, too.

It also seems as if the mirror can get out of position, too, as if the clicking is somehow related.

Has anyone else run into an issue like this? I'm hoping to avoid a trip to the dealer, but a brand new car shouldn't be having issues like these, either.

Thanks in advance for your help!

I have the same issue!! It's a clicking sound that seems to emanate from the sunglasses holder/ rear view mirror area whenever I go over bumpy roads. Like you said, it appears to get worse when the car is in the heat. I just chalked it up to the panoramic sunroof expanding in the heat and causing creaking/ clicking. When I push up against it while driving, the sound goes away!

Well, we shouldn't have to drive around with our hands up against the rear view mirror area, should we? Especially considering the price of these cars...

I'll be taking mine in and see if the dealership can make a repair that gets rid of the problem.

Also, thanks for responding and letting me know that I'm not the only one with this issue!

I have same problem and have appointment tomorrow since it's going to be 95 degrees. Took it in for oil change two weeks ago, but could not duplicate with test drive with mechanic because it was only 70 degrees outside. It definitely goes away when I push up on the sunroof/map light panel assembly as well! So I have it pinpointed and the dealer has no argument now.

If one of you gets it fixed, please let the rest of us know what they did because my dealer says nothing is wrong.

I second that!

I found that the issue is that the headliner is rubbing the top of the windshield, I put a piece of felt along that edge between mirror and pass side visor and eliminated it.

Took mine to dealer on 8 Sep. Mechanic drove it first, said he barely heard it. Then we both took a ride and verified the creaking sound over bumps. He pulled the control panel down and added felt insulation around overhead console. He said he also added non-metal washers or spacers (can't remember) to the 2 screws that secure the control panel, no charge. All I can say is, WHAT A DIFFERENCE!! Now all I hear is the loud road noise from the Michelins I did not want from the tire recall and a slight dull thumping noise at times from the pana roof. I'm waiting on solid fix before I have them tear apart my panaroof. Hope this repair works for you.

Another place this noise can come from is the plastic housing located behind the rearview mirror
The housing can tap on the windshield while going on rough/uneven pavement generating a very annoying rattle noise.
Adding a few felt pieces completely eliminated this problem

I have that strange "light rattle noise" too. I have isolated it to the passenger visor mirror. Stuffed some credit cards in it and a cloth and it is now gone. Still have the panarama roof noise however.

I want to check my last statement. The noise is coming from the center sunglass / light area in the upper middle. I can just touch a finger on it and it stops.
Of course every time I take it to the dealer the can't duplicate it.
Not to happy with Hyundai service to be honest.

Mine had a clicking/popping sound from the same area. I pulled the map light console down and found there is this foam insulation around the hole. The edges are covered in adhesive so it can stick to the body cavity. But that adhesive also makes an amazingly loud "popping" sound if I flexed the headliner up and down. So I just stuffed some felt material in there to eliminate that little issue. I still have the occasional moonroof squeak from the rubber seals, but the map light creak/pop is gone.

Mine was a small broken piece that was rattling around in the black housing forward of the inside mirror. 15 dollars to buy the housing, installed myself... happy camper!!

I have a 2015 genesis There is a sound coming from the upper console for overhead lights or the liner near the top of the windshield that sounds like styrofoam when your on rough roads, I got approval to take it to the dealer, the advisor went on a drive with me , he heard the noise said it was the mirror which was on solid, appointment was made 8:00 am we dropped it off ,by 5 no call that it was ready , I called them It was said they need to make sure of the resets for the mirror was working properly, and I can pick it up the next day by 10:00 am, it was not ready, 30 minutes the Svc advisor went with my husband and I , no noise
I was surprised that I did not have to reprogram the mirror for the garage door opener, and it appeared it was my same mirror, went for errors the next day there is was in full capacity , the styrofoam, I rally don’t want to take it back and waste another day, I hope the prior suggestion work, I’m going to try, if anyone else has done something different let me know

I have a 2019 G70, still brand new, and I have a similar creak/rattle that I believe is coming from exactly the same area as you guys: by the headliner that connects the overhead console with the front camera assembly. Close to the rear view mirror. I can even see insulated wiring harnesses behind the headliner at the join. Putting some pressure in that spot seems to reduce the noise.

Car is going in tomorrow and I will ask to have that checked out. However, noises can be one of the hardest things to get the dealer to find and agree to fix. :(

Congrats on the G70, good luck with the repair.

Congrats on the G70, good luck with the repair.

Took it in and the initial diagnosis is that they need to look at it more closely and will likely have to remove all of the camera assembly, the rear view mirror and the overhead console.

Will be back next week.

Does everyone have these 3 wires showing between the front camera device and the headliner? Stick your head under the rear view mirror and look up.

My car has it and another G70 at the service had it. That’s normal? Not exactly high quality fit and finish...

Hi, I am experiencing this issue on my 2023 GV70 where I hear rattles or clicking noise from either the panoramic sunroof area just above the rear view mirror or around that area! The rattles are heard when the car's body flexes on bumpy or uneven road surface. It is frustrating to drive car with all that noise. Dealer returned my car stating they could not reproduce the issue within first week of car purchase, I believe they wanted their loaner car back. Dealer asked to bring the car to dealership service center for a test drive if I hear it back which I obviously heard after I took the car.
I honestly did not expect this from the luxury brand, the service is extremely poor. At this point I just need this fixed, any thoughts what could be causing this?
