If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

what a hassle when doing business out of state. a great deal though in the end. the car is certified with 16,996 miles. i negotiated from 30,000 to 26895 . not bad for a certified with only 16,996.

i think they screwed up because when it came time to close the deal, a lower level sales manager got on the phone and said we can't do it- we need another thousand. what ? nope. you quoted and promised a price of 26895 and ran my credit. he wouldn't honor his word so i called the general manger as well as Hyundai USA to complain. long story short, they were made to honor what they originally promised. too bad it had to come to that but it is what it is.

now i'm just waiting on them to verify in writing that there are no major scratches , dings, blemishes, dents or stains, inside or out. i requested this friday and they still haven't emailed me back. the pictures look good but i still can't tell 100 % re scratches, dings, etc.

just hoping i don't exp the oil consumption problems with this car.

You're relying a dealership that wanted another $1,000 after agreeing to a deal and probably got dinged because of a complaint to Hyundai USA about their sales practice to make sure your car is nice and tidy?

I suggest driving across state lines to the dealership and check it out for yourself before committing to a possible $26,895 mistake.

Hoping it all works out for you!

I agree! U pi$$ed the effers off, and now you want THEM to make sure the car is perfect. Don't think they will be very cooperative, and I also suggest u cross state lines to seee for yourself

So you bought a used car sight-unseen or going to buy it. But you did pay for an independent check on the car to make sure their are not any undisclosed problems---- like oil burning--- right good. My advise is dont give them a cent till you look at the car and get its history. Enough said ---- very --- difficult to apply any legal action on a out of state deal--- ask your attorney. Man run away from this, we are here to help you -- have the dealer supply all the history , also subtract all your costs in buying the car. I just refused a deal on a 2013 R spec out of state , it was a beautiful car, but the costs and risks did not justify the costs. Thanks Oldvet

i did the research on the carfax history, including repairs and maintenance. very good history and clean car with a certified bumper to bumper warranty. so i'm not too worried there, BUT, i'm still not final on the deal yet. waiting for them to put into writing an inventory of any and all scratches, blemishes, dings, stains, etc inside and out.

Do not believe them one word!

Get PPI (pre-purchase inspection) by independent mechanic instead!

I rather spend 150-200 dollars on it to be absolutely sure that I got "clean" vehicle.

I don't want to sound pessimistic, but since early 2012 5.0 engines had oil consumption problems, the sheet metal probably has a lot small dents in it, where it was touched by 10-foot poles.

Those poles had to be at least 10' 1". 10' poles couldn't quite reach.

What's the manufacturing date cutoff for the oil burn problem?

is that true for all the 2012 5.0 's, or just some ?
One member who got his engine replaced by Hyundai was told by an HMA rep that his new engine would definitely not have the same problem, confirming that they did make a change to fix it. But I don't think anyone (except Hyundai) knows exactly when the fix was made on the manufacturing line. It's not a problem they like to talk about. But that suggests that any 5.0 built before the problem was fixed could experience the problem.

You probably know that the car's manufacturing date is on a label in the driver door jam.

i checked the date on the carfax and it's 5-16 2012. so based on some reports here, that date definitely falls into the problem time. but just not sure if all the 5.0's in the problem time range will experience the oil consumption problems. some said they fixed theirs with using different oil weights and synthetic oil, so i'm not sure.

Using a higher viscosity oil will help, but doesn't help the underlying problem. On the other hand, it is possible that the problem was that a large percent of the cars experienced break-in problems (rings did not seat properly), while other cars will not have any problem at all. Hard to say, and don't know if a problem could crop up later even if it appears OK now.

If the car was made on 5-16-2012, then it is almost certainly after the fix was made. See my post in this thread for the summary of owners with oil burn issues.

Dont buy it unless you see it first, go over the whole car --DONT give them any money in advance. You asked for advice--- thats it. You never said how far away the car is---50--500 or 1500 miles. Out of state buys are very risky on used cars--- you have little recourse. Find a nice car in your state --- they are around . Thats it Im out --good luck.

just checked again. i was wrong. the production date is 10 -20-2011 probably will be a problem. i heard using 5 / 30 synthetic
helps.

Buying a different car helps even more.
