If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey guys,

I am getting a clunk sound when going over even minor imperfections in the road from the drivers side front suspension. This doesnt seem to happen if I have the tires turned to either side. I tried to push down and see if I could see anything or tell where it was coming from and it sounded like the upper end of the [stock] spring and shock. When I was outside pushing down on the car it almost looked like it was the bottom spring perch moving and hitting the shock [see attached picture]. Also, I checked the sway bar links and they seemed tight so I don't think that is the problem. I will probably be bringing it into the dealer soon for the brake fluid TSB, but was just wondering if anyone had any ideas on it. Thanks.

Well it took them a while and after dousing the suspension in silicone spray [and performing the brake fluid TSB], the sound was still present, they found a crack in the front lower control arm and a worn out bushing. They are going to replace both front lower control arms thankfully covered under warranty because its around 1k for parts. Number 6 and 7 in the diagram in case you were wondering.

To the OP:

Did this fix your clunking sound problem? I have a similar situation, and had read about some people replacing the strut assembly, so I'd be interested in what your experience was here.

Thanks.

Actually just had the car in today to get the strut replaced however it was only the shock part that was replaced, not the mounts or anything. Unfortunately, the sound is still there so it will be going back in. It wasn't completely unsuccessful though because I got the drivers side door trim replaced due to a bubble forming and the driver seat bottom leather replaced. The sound seems to happen when it's either a large bump or if there are multiple bumps and the wheel is going up and down quickly.

Just to update, the sound is still there but can only be heard when encountering large speed bumps. I heard it after leaving the dealership on the speed bump at their exit, but havent heard it since. I haven't noticed it during daily driving like how it was previously. So it is a lot better than before.

For some reason I had a similar issue when car had Bridgestone PO4's and I would back out of my driveway here in FL with wheels turned toward drivers side. Nothing could be found. I changed tires back to 235x45x19's ( due to need for tread) and issue (thunk) gone. Not saying this your issue...but coincidence??..maybe/maybe not

The sound was there with falkens and now with bridgestone serenity's. I personally think hyundai just has really low quality shocks I talked to a service guy and he said the sonatas had a tsb for the same thig and it calls for a front lower control arm replacement by e said its always the strut that they have to replace to fix it. Thanks for your suggestions though.
