  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

comparing Genesis to MB E350

nextcar-Did what you suggested. Car is worth anywhere from $18,700 to $21,500. MB dealer without seeing car offered $18. Will likely get $20 from Hyundai dealer in June on trade for new Genny should I make that decision.

That's not the way I understand resale values. The way I understand it, if you can get a car for below ATP, you've done well in terms of preserving resale. Admittedly, I don't know much about depreciation because, as I said, that is never one of the factors for me buying a car.

Depreciation is calculated from MSRP - so a model will tend to have greater depreciation the greater the diff. btwn ATP and the MSRP.

But, however, for those buyers, their depreciation hit is not nearly as bad since they basically got the savings up front.

I think we're saying the same thing, but going at it from diff. angles - but depreciation is calculated from MSRP which can be misleading since it should really be calculated from ATP.

In my situation, the Hyundai Assurance plan guarantees about $20K at 36 month mark so if I paid $38K for the car, it cost me $500/month excluding taxes, tags, etc. This is assuming I trade up to the '15
