  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So I got my 09 Genny 3.8 a few weeks ago and it has been great so far. Only has 17k miles on it and is in like-new condition. Today, however, I noticed a significant amount of condensation inside the rear passenger taillight (both in the blinker portion and the lower brake light). The car is still under warranty and I was wondering if that would be covered? It's obviously not sealed correctly and this is the type of issue that only gets worse over time. Any help would be appreciated!

I doubt this will be covered. Something like this only falls under the bumper to bumper warranty and yours has already passed.

Isn't it a 5 year/60k basic? Should be covered...

Go to your dealer....he is next to last word in warrantee interpretation.

Normally something like this would be covered in the bumper to bumper warranty, which for most manufacturers is either 1 yr/12k miles or 3 year/36k miles.

That may be the case for most cars. The Genesis has a five year warranty on most things except the tech package and paint (3 years) and of course the drive train (10 years).

However, I'm not sure about someone other than the first owner.

All Hyundai vehicles sold in the U.S. are covered by the Hyundai Assurance program, which includes the 5-year/60,000-mile fully transferable new vehicle warranty
PR Newswire (http://s.tt/1w9HC)

From Hyundai's Web Site:

10-YEAR/100,000-MILE POWERTRAIN PROTECTION
Covers repair or replacement of powertrain components (i.e., selected engine and transmission/transaxle components), originally manufactured or installed by Hyundai that are defective in material or factory workmanship, under normal use and maintenance. Coverage applies to original owner only, effective with 2004 model year and newer model year vehicles. On 1999-2003 model years, coverage applies to original owner and immediate family members (i.e., wife, husband, daughter, son, stepdaughter, stepson).
Second and/or subsequent owners have powertrain components coverage under the 5-Year/60,000-Mile New Vehicle Limited Warranty. Excludes coverage for vehicles in commercial use (e.g. taxi, route delivery, delivery service, rental, etc.).

5-YEAR/60,000-MILE NEW VEHICLE LIMITED WARRANTY
Covers repair or replacement of any component manufactured or originally installed by Hyundai that is defective in material or factory workmanship, under normal use and maintenance.
The following components are covered for time and mileage limits indicated:
• Radio and audio systems (i.e., radio, compact disc player, DVD player, navigation system, and Bluetooth®): 3 years/36,000 miles
• Paint: 3 years/36,000 miles
• Battery: 3 years/unlimited miles (100% covered 2 years/unlimited miles; after 2 years and within 3 years, 25% cost of battery and 100% labor cost covered)
• Air conditioner refrigerant charge: 1 year/unlimited miles
• Adjustments: 1 year/12,000 miles
• Wear items: 1 year/12,000 miles (e.g., belts, brake pads and linings, clutch linings, filters, wiper blades, bulbs, fuses)

Again, don't see why it won't be covered.

I was reminded of this thread yesterday while installing my new lip spoiler. Working so closly around the general area of the car, I finally noticed what I have to believe was pre-delivery damage on the left inner taillight assembly. A very small corner of the red plastic is chipped -as if the unit was dropped at some point before it was installed on my car. I'm concerned of course that the integrity of the unit's seal may have been compromised and that I'm at risk of taillight condensation too. Not willing to wait and see, I called the dealer and will be taking the car in for a viewing and hopefully repair under warranty in about 40 mins. Wish me luck.

I see your in my neck of the woods. Where did you buy it from? I got mine at Suntrup.

How long have you had the car?

I got mine in mid December from Dean Team. Btw, they've ordered the part and will make the repair under warrany -no cost.

That's good they fixed it! I almost bought there. Better deal at the time was at Suntrup.

Are you sure you own a Genesis? This is our warranty.

By the way, when was the last car anybody owned that had a one year bumper to bumper warranty?

A warranty that the OP may not have consider he is not the 1st owner. It won't apply unless he purchased a certified car.

And to answer your question, most manufacturers. Body components are not usually covered for the full 36k/3 year warranty most companies have, but rather 10k/1 year.

Again, don't see why it won't be covered.

See above.
