  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Connected Services going away in December 2022

I just saw this article on CNN: The 3G network shutdown will impact more than just phones

I felt this quote is interesting: "If the car does use 3G, Abuelsamid recommended customers ask the manufacturer if there is an upgrade program and, failing that, contact the carriers, which can provide an adapter with a modem that can be plugged into a vehicle."

That seems to make sense I guess, but I feel GCS would have to accept that as an option too?

plug in may or may not work depending on how the present modem is integrated. If easily done, Genesis would be dumb not to provide something. "Free with a one year contract" would work.

I see a class action lawsuit in the making!
I have already contacted a law firm. The first letter of notification came in 2019 in the terms of agreement.

Please keep us up to date. Are you saying the first notice of this 3G issue came from Genesis in 2019? I assume it was buried in fine print.

Curious if some of you with a 2019 can go to Settings, Connected Services, Modem Status and see if it shows LTE, or another technology.

Might be good if some 2018 and 2020 owners do this, too. It may be an accurate way to see if your car is affected.

I'm personally not affected by this. But I can understand the frustrations of the others. And as a new comer to this brand, I'd like to see them improve for the future.

My take on this is, any car that is still in the "full" warranty period; the 5 Years/60,000Miles. They should've thought about this in advance, and a retrofit part should be available FREE of charge for every single owner of those models affected.

I'm not even gonna go into why a 2017+ model was running on 3G to begin with...But a proper replacement of that modem should be available to every customer..

Mine also shows LTE, but I still got the letter for my car the I got in November 2019.

Really! I'm surprised, you're the first I've heard that's said this. I don't understand how it can show LTE which implies 4G.

I would ask them to confirm this. Now I feel a need to re-confirm mine.

Do you have a 2019 base G80?

So, after I traded my 2019 Genesis G80 Ultimate in on a GMC Terrain Denali with better features than the Genesis and they all work, I contacted Genesis and had them refund the payment I had made for a year of Connected Services. They took that payment and then 2 weeks later I got the "hey, we don't give a crap about you and the buttons on your mirror will stop working on 12/31/2022" letter. That combined with several other things they did over the 3 years I owned the car made me trade. And now I have received the attached email from Genesis telling me how great connected services is and suggesting I should sign up for it. Tone deaf is an understatement.

My 2018 G80 Base does not show the LTE or 3G or 4G, and I did NOT get an Email. I have the latest updates.
Any one got a guess of where I stand.

It seems like the best "guess" right now is that the 2018 8" are okay, and the 2018 9.2" are not.

You have the 3G

I was curious on how to bring up the info on the display. I figured I had 3G for my 2018 G80 was built 1/23/17 - bought it new mid Sept 2017. But thanks Ed for the sad news. <G>

I contacted Genesis Connected Services and they don't have a way to look it up. I find this a bit hard to believe; they can determine which cars are affected and send out an email, but can't tell after that?

Me: "Can you please confirm whether or not I was sent "the email" regarding the 3G issue?

I have a base 2019 G80 and don't recall getting it, but I may have deleted it inadvertantly. I want to know for sure that my car already has the 4G LTE and I have no worries.

I need to know if my car is going to lose thousands of dollars in value or not. It's very important to me.

Attached is my vehicle information."

Them: "Unfortunately, we are unable to determine whether you were sent the email regarding 3G services ending. To confirm, you would need to check the email address associated with your Mygenesis account and check for any messages sent from Bluelink. Please also check your spam folder. We understand the urgency to know if you are an affected owner, however, our access to your vehicle information is limited. To determine which broadband service your vehicle uses, you would need to check your email or have a retailer check your head unit. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

If you have additional questions or concerns, please contact Genesis Customer Care and reference case number 19xxxxxx.

Thank you for being a valued member of the Genesis family."
