If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. What is the way to get the company code from Genesis?

Talk them into partly paying for this third party device? Good luck with that. Looks like it does not do remote start or lock/unlock.

I was going to start a list of features that are lost with Connected Services. It's pretty lengthy. Not that I use them all, but still.

My most used are remote start, send address to car, and remote lock. But I have used the valet speed warning, and curfew hours notification a few times, and like getting the monthly vehicle check notices. I like how the app reads my calendar and I can navigate right there from the app by touching the appointment. I've honked my horn and flashed my lights, too - when looking for my car in a stadium parking lot. I recently turned on the Driving Score feature to see how I drive for potential insurance discounts, guess that's in question, too ..

Since it is plugged into your OBD port, does that mean you would have to remove it any time you need to check eng codes or conduct the state's (at least in MD) emissions inspection?

I have been eyeing this one: Bundles Archive | Compustar - it is the same brand someone else linked to at BestBuy. Many options to choose from.

It doesn't appear to be plugged into the OBD port but I could be wrong. It has all the features I use but missing a few. Also much cheaper then GCS.

I would ask them to confirm this. Now I feel a need to re-confirm mine.
I asked Genesis to confirm my car is okay and to check to see if I was sent the email. Said I didn't receive it, but it may have been deleted accidentally.

Basically, the email was a one-off and they have no way to confirm it. Very unprofessional way of handling this. What if they had a bad email address?

I suggested they set up a website where the VIN could be entered so a car can be checked. No response on that.

"Unfortunately, we are unable to determine whether you were sent the email regarding 3G services ending. To confirm, you would need to check the email address associated with your Mygenesis account and check for any messages sent from Bluelink. Please also check your spam folder. We understand the urgency to know if you are an affected owner, however, our access to your vehicle information is limited. To determine which broadband service your vehicle uses, you would need to check your email or have a retailer check your head unit. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you."

I wonder if Genesis Dealership could tell if you are okay by looking at it. Maybe by showing them that screen that shows LTE?

That's kinda the direction my thoughts were going, but you got the letter, and you show LTE - we basically have the same car.

I'll call my dealer at some point but I don't have much faith in that. Pretty sure they will refer me back to Genesis.

Yeah, it seems like if they could tell the dealers how to tell, they could tell us how to tell.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Really! I'm surprised, you're the first I've heard that's said this. I don't understand how it can show LTE which implies 4G.

I would ask them to confirm this. Now I feel a need to re-confirm mine.

Do you have a 2019 base G80?
I have a 19 G80 sport. It has the larger 9 inch display that I believe is also included in the Ultimate trim. I can confirm this head unit is driven by 3G connectivity. However, I do believe the 8 inch display does have LTE, which is 4G and not affected by this. This display was in the base model. If you have confirmed in the connection settings in your radio and the user manual that LTE is available for your model, you are safe. I believe I saw something similar in my user manual.

I would add that regardless of the Verizon end date for 3G, they have already taken a large number of 3G radios offline and will scale back to their final end date later this year. Genesis connects via Verizon‘s network. I can confirm my remote start is working in less locations the past 6 months. Very few times does my remote start work, usually reported as a connection issue. I also had a small incident where I ran off the road lately on a patch of ice taking out a small wooden fence and attempted to use the emergency button. It did not work. (Everyone was safe, but the Genny is waiting on a new bumper, whenever supply chain allows)

The email regarding this snafu was sent late 2021. I think in December, if I am not mistaken. If you did not receive it, it might be because your car has LTE.

The decommissioning of 3G radios was announced in 2016. It has been pushed back several times. There was no doubt that manufacturers knew of this and did nothing to save cost. Feckless government oversight of technology matters is very apparent in scenarios like this. The lack of understanding of technology continues to open the opportunity for business to rip off consumers who do not fully understand how their devices work, and should not be required. I would never had thought to ask my dealer if my 2019 G80 would be supported by 3G connectivity at the time of purchase. But I digress…

When coupled with the Sirius XM issues of early 2021 and now this, it is very disappointing for the brand.

I am seeking retrofit options for at least the remote start features. I have a hard time selling a car I purchased and amortized in three years. I guess Genesis is banking in the demographic of most luxury sport consumers leasing the vehicles. It seems most of the industry is struggling with this, but there are some competitors positioned to offer a free upgrade to address the issue. Perhaps pressure will fall on them when someone is seriously hurt and unable to use the emergency button on their mirror for help but have paid for the service.

I will post if I find a reasonable recommendation for remote start that will work with the car.

For those complaining, imagine being owner of a pre 2015 Tesla Model S which will also lose its 3G connectivity but the impact is significantly higher

The only silver lining is that Tesla is offering a paid upgrade.
In a letter to affected owners, Tesla warns about the change, which is starting to affect owners:

As of February 22, 2022, your Model S will lose cellular connectivity when AT&T discontinues its 3G network. To maintain certain mobile and in-car capabilities that require data usage, upgrade to an LTE-capable modem. Without an upgraded modem, you will not be able to:
  • Remotely control climate controls, locks and charge settings
  • Get navigation and traffic updates, including Supercharger availability and outage information
  • Stream music online using your touchscreen
  • Receive remote diagnostic support from roadside assistance
  • Access over-the-air software updates
To schedule your modem upgrade for $200 USD plus tax, select Schedule Service > Upgrades & Accessories > LTE Upgrade from your Tesla app.

A little different.

They bought a 2015 model vehicle. Most here have a 2018 or 2019 model, well after the 2016 announcement of decommissioning 3G.

Elon is providing an option from the manufacturer to address the issue.

We are told to pound sand.

I am open to Genesis offering a retrofit to upgrade LTE at my cost after 3 years of ownership. I’d rather a manufacturer solution than third party (thanks to others for recommendations on this thread).

Fair point, only wanted to state that impact to Genesis is relatively small compared to something like a Tesla, which will be practically useless without an internet connectivity which is not the case with Genesis. But I agree that Genesis should have planned better in the first place and also provided an option to upgrade modem.

I appreciate your viewpoint. I respect Tesla offering a reasonable solution to address cars that are more reliant on the connectivity, even at 6+ years old. I would hope that Genesis would do the same, even in a comparably small marketplace.

This is the best one I found on the Compustar website,

PRO T13 with LTE.

Maybe I'm missing something from the article, but to me, the Tesla article doesn't spell out huge differences to me. The biggest is getting supercharger info, and streaming music.

We lose quite a few features as well.

From the article for Tesla -

- Remotely control climate controls, locks and charge settings
- Get navigation and traffic updates, including Supercharger availability and outage information
- Stream music online using your touchscreen
- Receive remote diagnostic support from roadside assistance
- Access over-the-air software updates

Tesla has no offline navigation or Apple carplay / Android Auto. I will not show you any map, imagine that.
Also the biggest advantage Tesla has right now is the Supercharger network, Imagine driving your car without being able to find a gas station.
As for software updates, Imagine and iPhone or Android device which stops receiving updates including security one, Tesla often fixes mechanical and electrical issues over the air.

In Tesla world these are big changes as these features make the car unique.
