If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi, All-
I came down with the mod bug again last week. I started researching part numbers for the coupe and trying to cross-reference to the sedan. After researching I felt quite certain that the lightweight Torque Solutions alternator pulley that is marketed for the coupe years '10+ would fit our 3.8 sedan (sorry V8's - this is one place we have the advantage :) ).

After reading through the shop manual and getting comfortable with what I needed to do, I managed to get the stock pulley off. It's the same diameter and thickness as the TS pulley; however is much heavier. Anyways, swapped it out and voila - new lightweight alternator pulley on my sedan.

This was a test run as most likely I'll try doing the water pump pulley at some point too. The crankshaft pulley definitely is the same that is on the coupe; however, I have concerns about harmonic balancing. Unlike my Elantra, which had a solid pulley, the Genesis is a two piece with a strip of rubber in between the two metal discs.

Rubber usually means it's not just there to send kinetic energy to the other devices on the belt - it most likely aids in keeping the engine from shaking itself apart over time.

Stay tuned..

Interesting... Now that idea got my creative juices going...

Using the same principle, How about doing something a bit more serious, like adding 145hp for a total of 478HP!!! :D

If you can pull it off, you will basically be able to blow each and every one of us (V8s) out of the water , at which point I will promptly find a valid reason to upgrade 4.6 to a black 2013/4 3.8 Tech. (And give the R-Spec to the Mrs.) .

If you are interested, I can lookup the sedan and Coupe ECUs to see if they are the same part numbers/or interchangeable, at which point this idea could actually be feasible, provided there are not to many parameters that are different between the sedan and coupe V6 ECUs :)

Too bold for now my friend. This is my daily driver and I need to keep it somewhat reliable and within the realm of keeping the warranty intact. I know what I'm doing is peanuts compared to FI, but every little mod marginally improves the performance a bit while I get to learn something new.

Sounds like a plan! However, you can take comfort in knowing that you now have new avenues available to you, that we (the V8s folks) can only dream about.. ;)

Just a quick update:

Alternator pulley has been running fine so far. I just pulled the trigger on a red Torque Solutions water pump pulley too. Verified that the OEM water pump pulleys are the same part numbers between V6 coupe and sedan. This pulley is near the top of the engine so the red pulley should compliment my red engine cover.

Just a little more info on the TS water pump pulley. Fit like a charm; however, there was a bit of rubbing on the inside circumference (the opposite side of the ribs). I would tend to think this is a manufacturing defect in the aftermarket pulley as the water pump and OEM pulley part numbers are exactly the same between the coupe and sedan.

Anyways, I took a fine grit Dremel cylinder and removed probably a half a mm around the circumference on the inside of the TS pulley. Voila, no more rubbing.

Id be interested in seeing if the turbo kit for the coupe would work on the sedan. Ive been calling around recently trying to find a turbo setup for this car and saw the one for the coupe on the turbokits.com website. I called the dealership and asked a few questions about the interchangeability between coupe and sedan motors with no luck. IF YOU COULD LET ME KNOW IF THE KIT WOULD WORK WITH SOME MODS ID BE APPRECIATIVE.

Contact Sam at BTR - Blood Type Racing if you are seriously looking how twin turboing the 3.8. They know more about what can be done and has been done to our engines. IIRC they already have a kit for the sedan its just not advertised yet.
