  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey everyone, I am currently in the market for a CPO 15-16 Genesis and had couple question in regards to a specific listing I saw. A dealer has a 2015 CPO Genesis from New York near Brooklyn with only 25,000 miles on it but had its brake pads and brake replaced twice in a span of 6000 miles according to car fax. It states front brake pads replaced as well as resurfaced brake rotors for both report.

Are brake pads supposed to be replaced at 20,000ish interval or longer? Do you think rear brakes were also affected as bad as the front ones? Do you think it is a car that I should stay away from since its from New York (city driving) or go and take a look at it.

Additionally, the dealership also has a 2016 CPO Genesis with 37,000 miles from Texas which only had its brake calipers serviced and cleaned after lease turn in. Should I go for the 16 with higher miles or 15 with lower miles but had its brake pads replaced twice.?

Thanks everyone, hope to join the Genesis Team soon.

I got close to 40,000 miles on my brakes. I don't live in Brooklyn though. Some years ago I lived in Philadelphia and it was common to have a stop sign every block. It is tough on brakes. It is tough on a lot of things. Personally, I'd not touch it.

How much for each car?

Both cars are 27k. No accidents on both and both had oil changes every 5k/6months. 2016 has 18,000 miles per year for two years vs. 8,000 miles per year for three years on the 2015 Personal Leases.

Take the 2016, one more year of warranty and 5 years instead of 3 years on electronics. Very important

I was highly considering the 2016 and I was additionally going to purchase the CPO Wrap for 10years/100k which I believe does take care of the electronics. But on the other end, the 2015 has the brake pads replaced as well as the battery replaced (prob due to the short city driving and lack of the battery charging) so I don't have to worry about that for the next 3-4 years.

The 16 does need the tint removed from the rear window at the back since it is too light so hopefully that wouldn't be an issue later.

Buy them both. Great cars and a fantastic value. We got a CPO 2015 and love it.

I think the brake pad replacements are more likely due to the previous owner complaining about the braking. If the current set is fine, I doubt it will be a problem. Another reason would be aggressive city driving, which would be a yellow caution.

I would presume Brooklyn would be more conducive to city driving, and Texas mostly highway miles. Personally, I would take high highway miles over low city miles every time, unless the miles are too close to the CPO warranty period. Problem is figuring out if is it city driving, or that the person is only driving on occasion? The only indication to go by is the carfax miles interval. Set up a spreadsheet of the dates and odometer reading, assuming there are enough recorded readings, and figure out the average miles per day or month. With the occasional driver, the miles between intervals will be a lot more irregular, such as a lot of miles traveled during summer, that may be ok. Looking at the cars in person may provide other hints as to which is which. Low mileage but bad interior wear almost means the owner spent a lot of time in the car, maybe sitting idle in traffic? Again, I would take a high mileage car with highway miles over one with low mileage and stop and go traffic.

It has 25000 miles in 3 years. If you take an average per year, that is still a lot of stop and go in the NY Metro area. May have even been an Uber for a while too. The spreadsheet would show that if there was a period of higher than usual miles. So would the brake pads. Only way I'd consider that one is for it to be about 10k less than the usual.

Spend a couple of hours driving in that area and the Texas car will look so much better.

Just briefly made a spreadsheet and looked over it, the 15' has around 20 miles on average a day pretty consistent versus the 16' from Texas which is around 45-50 miles per day. I'll probably go sometime this week and take a look at both but now leaning towards the 16' as long as the interior which is beige and exterior is in good condition. If anyone has the beige interior ultimate package, how is it holding up? Any creases on the leather or dye transfer?
