  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Crazy oil change on my 2012 3.8

I use a K&N air filter and clean it twice a year. I hate when those dudes use the gorilla grips to put the drain plug and filter in...it's just laziness.
My 2013 3.8 takes a full 6 quarts for an oil change.Lubricants_and_Quantites.webp

Yea, I drained oil and changed filter, and put 6 qts in my 2012, and it was overfilled. Had to drain some out. Odd.

Are you all running regular grade fuel? (87 octane)

Yes. Engine is designed to run on 87, so 91 or 93 won't help performance or mileage. 3.8L V6. Using a top tier fuel premium will give you the added benefit of cleaning agents for the injectors, but that's about it as no fuel or additives touch the intake valves.

Mines a 2013 3.8 but I have no issues with 6 quarts. Maybe there's a difference in the dipstick or the dipstick tube.
The distance on mine from the top of the dipstick tube (bottoming shoulder on the dipstick) to the full mark is exactly 24".

I'll have to check it. I can't think they'd make a diff in oil pan size, etc from yr to yr.
