  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Cruise Control Issue - Collision Warning False Positive

I’ve been fighting with Genesis to get this issue resolved on my 2022 Genesis G70 Sport Prestige AWD. They’ve had it back like 7 times now, they claim they can’t reproduce it.

I disable that crap every time I travel on the G70. It bugged me the other day in the city, but didn't apply the brakes. I have it on the least intrusive setting, and it's still crap. But most systems are like that, so there's not much you can do. If it bothers you that much, just disable it every time you drive the car, but yes, it takes a few touches of the screen for that. The good news is no start/stop on my G, so just put it in sport mode every ignition cycle.

Did you drive with then and reproduce it For them?

Disable the smart cruise down to regular cruise or disable the collision avoidance? I know how SCC is disabled on the 2019-2021 models but not on the 2022+ models. Do you know how?

You cannot disable SCC anymore, so we're stuck with it. The good news is I hardly ever use cruise. What I use more often is LKA, like when eating a snack while traveling, to avoid wandering on my lane. By the time the system beeps at me, I'm done. But the collision avoidance works with or without cruise engaged, and THAT is the problem for me. Wish it was just with cruise on, but it defaults to on all the time. I understand distracted drivers using it, but what I don't understand is why force us to have the darn thing on all the time. The bright side is we can still turn it off, I guess. Ha ha.

Possibly unrelated to this issue - but

There is a setting where the SCC will automatically reduce speed based on road conditions.

I have been driving 2023 loaners for three months and the behavior drove me nuts until I found it and turned it off.

I would be driving on a parkway and the car would decelerate for no reason. No collision alarm, just a sudden slow down.

where is this setting?

SCC Highway speed control

I had this issue with my 2019 G70 and now with my 2023 G70. Smart Cruise is set, no car anywhere close to me and suddenly the collision avoidance activates and heavy braking. In my 2019, they replaced the cruise ECU. My 2023 goes to the dealer tomorrow. We'll see what they say but from what I gathered, it likely needs recalibration. Let's hope that gets done tomorrow. Super annoying problem, especially when it happens to both my G70s!

That's not good. Disable that feature while you get it fixed. By the way, that collision avoidance crap can kick in with or without cruise. I always deactivate it when traveling, since I'm forced to pass a lot from the right around here, where freaking truckers refuse to move from the left lane on I-10.

Does turning off collision avoidance actually turn it off for CC as well? I didn't think it would.

Well, that's a good question, since now you cannot switch to regular cruise anymore, and ACC is supposed to brake if traffic slows (or stops). So the concept of ACC means the car should brake to avoid hitting the front vehicle, emergency or not. Ha ha. Anyway, I very rarely use cruise, and actually have never used it on either of my current vehicles (SF for 13 months, and G70 for 11), so turning off that crap works for me. I leave just the warning, to learn exactly how close I can get, but without the braking (and warning on the dash). But even at the least intrusive setting is still intrusive IMO. As a side comment, I found that by switching the turn-signal, the brake activation is more forgiving (when I forget to turn it off), so keep that in mind. And it makes sense, since you're basically telling the car 'Hey, I know I have to get out of the way, so leave me alone'. Ha ha.

Anyone have this issue? Sent this email to my service advisor, waiting on a response back.

"On my drive to Red Deer this morning, while on cruise control, my Genesis indicated Collision Warning on 8 separate times between Leduc and Red Deer. I've never experienced this behaviour before and each time the brakes were applied moderately and it reduced the speed but then came back and resumed my desired cruise speed. This is concerning. I just washed the vehicle so all sensors should be clear and unobstructed. A few other things I noted:
  • The cruise was set with the vehicle gap set to 2
  • No vehicles were detected in front of me by the gap detection
  • This happened on straight road and curves in the road
  • If I let the situation play out, it would slow down to roughly 60-80km/hr and then resume cruise.
  • There was no similar situation that I could tell for each of the 8 times. It was random.
  • I could apply gas and it would disregard the warning but if I let off the gas it would resume the collision warning
  • Eventually, after 10-20 seconds it would resume cruise and I'd stop fighting with the vehicle.
  • If cruise control was off, this wasn't an issue.
There is clearly something wrong here."

Initial thoughts from those in this forum?
I’m trying to get my car bought back. They’ve been reluctant thus far.

Update on mine..

They did a radar recalibration but that didn't fix the issue. They also couldn't reproduce the problem but accepted it was real with the videos I sent proving it. Yesterday they had a tech ride with me and he had their diagnostic logging plugged into my OBD2 port. We were able to catch the event twice within a short timeframe. So not only do I have a Genesis techs first hand observation but also some great diagnostic logs.

They are sending the data to Genesis for review and we will see what they find. My guess is the cruise radar needs to be replaced.

Interesting - I suspect there’s a timing issue with the radar wave reflections from various surfaces.

Quite some years ago one of the popular auto magazines of that time did tests of a police radar gun on several types of vehicles and terrain. One surprising result was that the gun supplied a result on the tractor trailer *before* it was in physical sight over the crest of the hill. Also the Corvette with aerodynamic fiberglass body was expected to perform as a stealth vehicle. It did not. The gun saw only the large metal chunk that was the engine.

Another update... Genesis determined from the log data that my radar is defective and they are going to replace it. The part is being shipped by air and expected here by tomorrow end of day. They will replace it Friday.

Radar has been replaced and recalibrated. So far, I've only taken it for a relatively short drive on the highway but no issues. We will see!

They refused to replace mine even after 10 trips to the dealership.

Did you get video of it occurring? If not, do that and then talk to them about liability should you get into a serious accident.
