Custom shift lever - an idea.

I'm interested in changing the shift knob in my '12 rspec that I just acquired. I understand that the knob itself is a press fit. I'm interested in actually using a threaded knob. I have the ability and tools available to thread the stock lever or even possibly make a custom one. My question is has anyone had the shifter assembly apart and could confirm whether or not the lever is removable from so work could be done. If you have pictures that would be amazing as well.

The shifter knob is indeed a "press" on knob. There is a shaft going into a plastic housing/assembly that controls what gear selection has been made. I did not examine the shifter shaft closely enough to verify if it is permanently attached to the assembly or if it is removable.

Just looked through the FSM and didn't see anything about the removal of the lever itself, the manual only shows knob removal. Would think that it is removable though otherwise dropping the transmission would be very difficult.

I might end up leaning towards making a bushing that threads in the knob and presses on.

Probably the best idea since it can be removed easily and put back to stock if you ever decide to sell it. Interested in seeing the final result.
