In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. That sucks... Good thing is that it looks like you will only need new bumper... Hope nothing else broke down and of course hope everyone is ok.

Ouch! the damage could be anything from 3k to 10k.

Sadly at least that much. Not just a case of slapping on a new bumper like old days.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
going through the same thing. damage on my 2018 is up to $11,000

the rear bumper cover and visible parts will be about $5K, if the steel under bumper, spare tire well, mufflers, brackets, etc. are damaged you will hit $10K easy.

Guys....I'm not sure if you can even see the difference, but the bottom picture is with the damage almost at 7k dollars in repairs.

Yeah, looks like it should come in under $1000.

not sure what I am looking at.

are you saying the bottom is AFTER $7K in repairs, or that the bottom NEEDS $7K in repairs.

EdP, no way you will get away with under $1K on these car, the rear bumper cover alone is more than that.

The bottom needs 7k in repairs. It sure desn't look like it, but its true.

As I understood from the two body shops I got estimates from, the rear bumper has the auto open trunk array and the cross traffic / BSM sensors built in and they are not sold/serviced separately so the rear cover is over $3,000 by itself. So unless the cover is repairable which both shops advised against as did my insurance claims adjuster, a new cover makes up almost half you cost.

The black lower cowl is also in the $1,500 range if both exhaust tip inserts have to be replaced, the tips are $350 each side!

If the back metal rebar (the actual steel bumper under the cover) brackets, etc got damaged then pile on another $2,000.

What are they going to think of next. They are soooo full of it. This is why I hate body shops. Unfortunately, I'm the largest Hyundai wholesale parts dealer in the state, and I have to deal with these idiots all day every day.

Let's go through the parts breakdown on a G80 Sport rear end
Rear bumper cover - part # 86640-B1800 List price = $635.46
Rear lower cover - 86612-B1800 List price = $262.67
Rear absorber (the foam part) - 86620-B1800 - $123.65
Rear impact bar - 86631-B1800 - $375.12
LH tailpipe trim (black part around exhaust tips) - 86671-B1800 - $14.40
RH tailpipe trim - 86672-B1800 - $14.40
LH exhaust tip - 86661-B1800 - $369.05
RH exhaust tip - 86662-B1800 - $369.05
Smart key/trunk antenna - 95420-B1200 - $69.08
LH blind spot monitor/bracket assy - 95811-B1600 - $1,242.47
RH blind spot monitor/bracket assy - 95821-B1600 - $1,242.47

If they are telling you and/or your insurance company that all the electronics are part of the bumper, they are ripping you guys off. With as much business I do with body shops, I might only sell 1 BSM a month. This is with Hyundai & Genesis combined. Surprisingly, they don't get damaged that often in a rear end collision. Yes, all 4 pieces combined is over $3,000, but I'm doubting you need them all. The smart key antenna is actually bolted to the impact bar, and not the bumper cover.

Those prices will be super helpful as I go through the estimate / second estimate dog and pony show.

I'd be surprised if it is under $5k, may hit $10k. The trunk won't close properly and doesn't line up with the right rear quarter panel. I'll keep everyone updated on the estimates / work.

Same here.....fixing just this will cost ~3k in parts/labor. Trunk lid alone cost ~1100 and lock over $500

Curious why it would matter to you and why you have to chase a second estimate unless you don't have insurance.

I went to the body shop of my choice (Genesis dealer) and got an estimate. Insurance company sent an adjuster to my house and he gave me a check for the amount of his estimate that was much lower.
Took car, estimate, check to the body shop. He just laughed and said OK, he would take care of it. Car was fixed, but I don't know the final cost. Nor do I care.

I have the right to choose any shop, the insurance has the obligation to fix it. My guess is the two of them go out for a beer and get it done. They did a good job too.

Those prices are actually correct.
Trunk lid - 69200-B1520 - $1,129.45
Trunk latch - 81230-B1010 - $526.97

Spare/replacement parts have always been a good money stream for auto and machine makers. In the case of a low volume car maker, where else are you going to go?

When they finalize realize it costs them more to replace someone else's property than the stupid cell phone. And their trivial idol conversations can wait. . What's worse it may or has cost the life of a pedestrian. The automotive industry has made it worse by adding driver reliant safety systems which make it too easy for drivers to depend upon. So it allows the driver to concentrate on everything else but driving. They should put a device in the car which"blocks" the use not of cell phones, then adding more systems that encourages its use. There's really no excuse from either perspective.

Another problem is; no traffic citations issued by police anymore. They just let the insurance companies fight it out with you in the middle, as the punching bag. They won't even check to see if the driver who hits you, was on the nearest cell tower to prove he/she was texting or on the phone. Such accidents have almost become an epidemic with the younger generations these days.

All I can say is, slow down and keep your distance from the person in front of you. Then when you notice them in the rear view mirror or beside you, let them bye or give them the a widest birth possible.

I empathize with you most assuredly.

Well I know that the BSM monitor was damaged on at least one side as the BSM stopped working and I had an error light on the dash, and the smart trunk also was not working, which isn't surprising as the impact bar was bent in half and shoved through the spare tire well.

while they didn't itemize like your list on the estimate, if I add the pricing all up it comes out to the same as the line item that says:

Rear Bumper cover, impact bar and brackets (all electronics included) = $3691.75
LH/RH Exhaust Tip = $349.97 ea.

Then there are some other little parts with abbreviations which I believe are brackets, bolts, trim parts etc. that range from $1.73 - $155.65

The spare tire well was added on just recently @ $374.00, as were both rocker moldings $345.47 each, and Both exhaust cans 28711R @ $520.46 each

I asked for an itemized list of the parts hopefully they will provide it.

it's been > 20 years since I've had to deal with a collision repair, and while I don't know for certain, based off what 2 estimators and the adjuster stated I suspect there are some parts that are just replaced in certain situations, regardless of need.

I personally pay an added supplement on my insurance for NEW OEM parts, and only NEW OEM parts will be used in a repair. A lot of times non-OEM or used/remanufactured parts are used in a case like mine in order to save the insurance company a few pennies on the repair.

Also, I have been giving State Farm $3K a year for 3 cars, 1 motorcycle, and a House for nearly 30 years, and only had 2 claims in all that time, this one, and one where someone keyed my car back in 2005, so you won't find me complaining about them having to replace any part on this car with a new part, they've sucked nearly $100K out of me, $10k-$15K for the one claim I've had in all the time isn't going to break them.

You got hit pretty hard then.

State Farm is pretty good. They usually stick with new OEM for 5 years. I have seen Allstate put used parts on a car with 3k miles on it before. Progressive, Geico, American Family, they love aftermarket parts. I actually got a body order today from a body shop going OEM on a 2003 Elantra. State Farm being the insurance company as well.
