  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I realize the Genesis doesn't have a Daytime Running Lights setting, but when I leave the headlights on, and turn off the car, they automatically turn off after a short while, and when I next start the car, the headlights automatically come on.

Is there any downside to doing this? Or, am I missing something?

If not, doesn't that suffice for DRL's?

Thanks so much to this forum. I love my 2010 4.6!!!! Almost bought an M37, until I drove the Genesis. Man, am I glad I did. Costco program was great too!

When your lights on turned on, the rear tail-lights are also on (but I don't think tail-lights are on with DRL).

Regular lights may cause your lamps to burn out sooner, but not much of problem as far as I can tell.

When it gets a little dark out, but not dark enough to trigger auto headlights, I often just turn my lights on. Also turn them on when it is raining (which is the law in many states).

Every new car sold in Canada since 1990 has to have daytime running lights installed. On my 2010 4.6 the high beam lamps turn on to a low brightness setting when the car is started and there is no control to turn them off. I don't know if Genny's in Canada are wired differently but I doubt it. I wouldn't be surprised if the car can be programmed somehow to give you this feature.

Anyone out there know if this can be done?

This has been investigated in detail by several USA owners on this forum. There are missing electrical components in the USA model that makes it far from simple.

At one time, I think DRL was required in the USA also (or at least the government announced the requirement in advance), but that law has been repealed.

This feature is indeed in the "Dealer Menu." I have an American Genesis 4.6 and turned on the DRL feature in the secret Dealer Menu. It's in the "Variant" sub-menu. Right now, I can't recall which option it was (it was a while ago), but I'll tinker with it and find out and post it here later.

Is that the 2010 model? I believe that members investigated this for their 2009 model and determined that there were certain electrical parts missing on the USA Genesis required for DRL. Also, not sure if there is a difference between Tech Package and non-Tech package models (is there a Dealer menu for Non-Tech models).

Yes, this is the 2010 Tech.

We need to have model year included in the "Drives a..." byline for members. There are starting to be too many differences from year to year. I am fairly sure that several people investigated DRL on the USA 2009 Genesis, and there were missing parts that would have to be installed, and maybe even missing wiring. Looks like for 2010 that may not be a problem.

Keep us updated.

So I just checked out my car. I turned off some of the variant options that I turned on a few months before (and that I thought activated the DRLs). The DRLs are still working. Now I'm confused.

I'm almost certain that the DRL were not on when I first purchased the car because I came to this forum looking for a solution to this issue. Now I'm not so sure what I did.

Next to the high-beam bulb, there's a small DRL bulb on my car (2010, 4.6 Tech). It is a tiny light bulb the size of a fingernail. When you turn on the headlights during the day, it will ONLY turn on the tiny bulb (and not the headlights). At night, it will turn on both. Before I messed with the dealer menu, this was not the case. Only my HIDs would turn on. Now when I turn on the headlights, I have two different color lights in front. I'm okay with this because I like the DRL feature.

I'm going to experiment over the next few days to see if I can turn off the DRL feature.

I'll keep everyone updated.

.

That small bulb is not a DRL bulb. My name for it is a "Position Light". Don't know what the correct name for that lamp is. I very seldom use the automatic headlights as stated in the message above, however, on cloudy days, what I do use is the "Parking Lights" which also turns on the "Position Lights". On cloudy days, the Position Lamps are more than enough for you to be seen by other cars. In bright sunny days, I don't use any lights, EXCEPT when I am on one of my many trips, and on TWO LANE ROADS. That is when I use my regular low beam headlights.

On the USA model of the Genesis there is no option to make this happen, I gained full access to the DIS (Drivers Information System - Engineering Mode) and in the full list of features there, while DRL's are mentioned it appears they did not put in the wiring harness for our market. It shows Daytime Running Lights in the DIS options menu, but there is no on/off option like there is for other settings. This is one feature I was really hoping was added for the 2011 edition. I have had an opportunity to see the DIS Engineering screen on the 2011 model for the US market and it's exactly the same information as on the 2010.

Maybe in 2012 when the vehicle receives it's 1st refresh they will finally add it, to me I think it is a great safety feature and if it means that my High Beams prematurely fail then that's fine with me, it's not like you use them for anything 99% of the time anyway and they are just a standard bulb that you can purchase for $20 a pair from any automotive shop, Walmart etc...

I tried accessing this menu for my Canadian, 2009 Genesis. I didn't see any mention of DRL's within the menu. Mine aren't working all of a sudden, after some recent service. Any advice on how to find this option in the menu, in case it was somehow disabled? I would love to be able to fix this myself with a simple click of the DIS.

Thanks in advance for any advice!
