How the heck did you get a knock off GDS tool to work on your 2015(or newer) Genesis? My knockoff GDS tool does not connect to my Genesis. My GDS tool keep stating that I need to update my 2.2 firmware before it can connect? I tried two different OBD cables; so unless both cables were bad it seems like I have to update my GDS unit. Not all the time. I paid $50 for a brand new one (OEM) a few years back off of Ebay. Programmed it with my knock-off GDS tool.
Thank you. It's been a couple years since I updated the firmware but it worked right away with the firmware it came installed with (most likely 2.2). I see in my Genesis firmware folder, I have 2.24, 2.28 and 2.30. I'm pretty sure it is running 2.28 now. I remember it can be real tricky doing firmware installs, at one time I thought I had bricked the unit.
Found the updates here along with some helpful hints: https://cartechnology.co.uk/forumdisplay.php?fid=60
Up until sometime last year, whenever you did a scan using the GDS, it would automatically connect and upload your data download session to Hyundai's website. There, you could also download and review all the dealer sessions you wanted to compare. Kinda cool... you could go and look at thousands of dealer scans using dealer codes on window stickers. Now that function no longer works. I had dozens of uploads stored and maybe they found out non dealers were using it with bootlegged equipment.
Sadly, some of the more in depth items in the GDS aren't accessible without a technicians code. The GDS software shows some Oscilloscope functions but it either needs more hardware or a tech. code. This thing definitely has a learning curve, as I get lost it seems like every time I use it. Doesn't help that I use it once or twice a year.
Never had a problem connecting using the supplied DLC cable.
I just fired up my laptop and 2.24 is installed.
What??? My other scan tools work on the Genesis with the engine off in accessory mode. Are you saying the engine has to be actually running for the GDS to work?Just checking... you do know the ignition has to be on for it to work.
Thanks you, but the GDS unit I have does not work it seems. I have tried it with the engine running and with the engine in the "on" position.I think it has to be in the ON position, but with the engine off. Without your foot on the brake, if you hit the button once that puts you in ACCESSORY mode. Press a second time without your foot on the brake, it puts you into ON mode.
They didn't because it costs them a sale. I don't trust anyone on Ebay. Thanks you, but the GDS unit I have does not work it seems. I have tried it with the engine running and with the engine in the "on" position.
I would like to see some pictures of a "cheap" GDS VCI unit working on a 2015 or newer Genesis. It does not seem like the unofficial units work with the DH models. Even some of the Chinese websites that sell these GDS units list only the BH models, but not the DH models. I wished my seller would have listed that information.
Could you post some pictures of the GDS working on a DH? I am using Windows 10, but the software works and updates my GDS VCI and download the updates from the web. The only issue is that it will not connect to my Genesis. What version of Windows do you have it installed on? I seem to remember it wouldn't work on 10.
Ignition on, motor not running.
Mine works on a DH.
True. My bad. However, a working GDS may be useful for any engine repair like the fuel system; so still kind of relevance to this fuel system related thread like with a fuel module which may need to be calibrated with a GDS unit without going to a dealership.Serious thread hijack in progress.
Wait, what?! Gasoline! The new mechanic noted that the oil pan was completely filled with gas, pretty crazy
Yeah, probably straight leaking from the bad fuel injectorWait, what?! Gasoline!
