  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Went to the dealer to complain about some quality issues with the car. First the AM/FM wasn't working, found out it was the front key pads. Then I told them that there was a squeak from the seat, turns out the seat belt bracket is rubbing against the hard plastic seat bracket. (I actually knew about this and put silicone grease, which works for about a month, then the grease wears off. Third, was an issue with the lower air grill which was strangely a different color then it should have been, dealer said factory forgot to paint it. Lastly, the leather seat began to bubble, which I have seen in cars costing 4 times as much, but asked if they could do something. (asked a previous dealer and they said it was normal.) The pictures below represent before and after. (full disclosure the before picture of the seat is from a V6, forgot to take a picture, but my seat was doing the same, and many of you have mentioned this in V6 and V8 trim.)
All items were fixed, under warranty, they sent the grill out to be painted by a body shop, they sent the seat out to be reconditioned by an upholstery specialist. The tape was obvious and the keypad was a warranty item. Cost $0. Best service experience ever, thank you!

Sucks that you had any of these issues to begin with, but good to know your dealer stepped up to the plate and took care of all of these items.

I wonder what they did to the leather seat. It looks almost new now.

My seat is doing the same thing and I only have 4500K miles on my car. I might have to bring it in to see what they can do to tighten that up. Great to hear they took care of you.

Do you clean/condition your leather seats? Just curious, because the trim around the edges appears to have a lot of creases/wrinkles given you low mileage.

I only have <6k miles. This has happened to many of the cars I have owned, and all the dealers usually say the same thing, it's normal, leather is a skin it will stretch. (yes even the Mercedes dealer said this). But after carefully looking at many V6 and V8 models from 09 and 10, I saw that there was no symmetry, at all, it was totally random, whether or not your seat did this. All I know is that it was bothering me. Not sure what the upholstery guy did, and I don't care. All I know is that it looks the way it should, and I feel zen about the whole process.

I purchased some Meguiars leather cleaner but have not applied any yet. I was thinking the same thing about the wrinkles on the left cushion piece. The camera flash makes that more pronounced. Next time I clean my car, I will do all the leather seats.

Most leather, even the cheap kind will last forever, as long as you take car of it. Much like paint, the enemy is negligence. As long as you clean and condition the leather once a month, it will serve you well. On a side note I am a big fan of Meguiars products, but I haven't liked their leather stuff very much. They have reformulated some of their products, but I typically like a dedicated leather cleaner, followed by a dedicated leather conditioner. It's tempting to use an all in one products if you're lazy, which I guess is better than nothing, but if you're gonna do it right that is the way to go. I use Lexol, but they mostly all work very well to be honest. Zymol, Meguiars,Mothers, (Connolly or Leatherique if you want to go nuts, but not necessary to spend that much, it's not a Bentley).

Thanks for the heads-up. That place is right off the highway when I go visit my folks down in Wellington, FL (coming from Orlando). I used to live in Jupiter so I know that area. Too bad they don't have a showroom. I stumbled upon it doing searches online a couple of months ago.

I have bot a ton of stuff from them before. They are also on the Speed Channel during Two Guys garage. Also there are a lot of video tutorials on that site. Warning*** Once you start learning about the magnitude of chemicals and materials that go into a a car and the different tools and cleaners that are needed to properly detail the car, it will become an obsession and potentially affect your personal relationships. Enjoy.

I've used the Meguiars leather condition probably once to twice a month. Just to be keeping the seats moist and smelling good. Also does a good job at keeping them clean.

Not to get too off topic because I know this was covered in another thread, but I alternate between 2 different products for my leather and have been quite happy with the results.

Griot's Leather Care Spray (1-2x per month). It smells just like leather and it cleans and conditions (I know TJ doesn't like all-in-one products, but I've found this to clean better than most dedicated leather cleaners).

Ultima Interior Guard Plus (4x per year). Doesn't smell that great, but it leaves the seats super smooth and like-new. Plus, you can use it on everything. This product replaced by prior favorite 303 Aerospace Protectant. I even use it on the "wood" trim to give it a slick, super shiny finish.

wow they forgot to finish painting the bottom front grill, that is really quite surprising, thought hyundai had better quality control than that.

It was pretty subtle, you really couldn't see it unless you were shining a halogen light on it. They only missed the top portion of it, and in all fairness it wasn't visible unless you got on your knees and looked at it 6 inches from your face. Since I detail cars, I notice everything, so it was bothering me, but then again, I am prone to detailing the wheel well of cars, so that's my own neurosis.

It has been a year since you have had this done. How is it holding up? Do your heat/cool function work as before? I have the same problem with mine. Thanks.

It's been 3 months since I had this done. The work has held up superbly, but it hasn't been that long. I don't have the tech package so I don't have the cooling feature on the car seat. However the heat works like a charm. All issues I have had with the car have been addressed under warranty, and I am totally satisfied with the outcomes.
