  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I noticed a degrading of the leather on my '12 RSpec's steering wheel. It was more or less hidden from view, being on the backside roughly at seven 0'clock.
It appeared as though the leather in this section had been stretched too tight as there were cross-ribbing marks. It was not caused by my body as I do not rub this section of the steering wheel while entering/exiting the car or while driving. The car has never been exposed to high heat. Over time the condition seemed to worsen.

Took it to my friendly dealer, who acknowledged the defect, and the wheel was replaced under warranty. Talked to a salesman at the dealership, who said that the Genesis coupe also uses a similar steering wheel, and they have seen similar problems on the coupe, but this was the first time he had heard of a problem with a sedan steering wheel.

All's well that ends well.

Thanks Rey. At least I know what to keep an eye on.

Rey,
My 2012 sedan has begun to exhibit this fault. Can you provide me the name of your local dealer; I want my dealer to know this is being corrected under warranty before they try to call it wear and tear.

Thanks

If you are getting close to one year of ownership, do not delay going to the dealer. There is a one year warranty on certain items (including wear and tear).

Mine's a coupe (2011) but I had the finish coming off my steering wheel this summer. Noticed it after I'd had the car about 14 or 15 months. Called the dealer, took it in, they looked at it, told me they'd order the replacement and call me to set up and appt. when it came in.

A week or so later they called, I called back and set up the appt. and I took the car in. A few hours after I left it they called for me to come pick it up.

Looks good. Didn't cost me a dime.

My dealer is Gateway Hyundai, just north of Colonial Heights, VA.
