  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Detailing Products YOU Use and Recommend

Yes, 303...it's a great product. It can be 'layered' for desired effect.

1 coat = matte, like new appearance
2 coats = slightly shiny appearance (but not greasy at all)
3 coats = medium gloss shine w/ a nice rich appearance (the black takes on a deeper true black appearance...still not greasy, but it will rub off after a few days wherever you put your arms)

Good deal. Was it used on the dash, seats, doors and basically everything other than wood and plastics? Spray on and wipe with microfiber cloth? Oh yeah, whats the actual product called? 303 has many different products.

Off to bed now..... I'll be dreaming.

how could I forget about this. I use this more than any of the others combined. I went 4 months without washing the Genesis last summer. I never rained and we were in a major drought:

303 Aerospace Protectant. And you guessed right, I use it on everything but the leather/wood/aluminum/clear plastic gauge cover and carpet (duh!). ;)
I use the Meguiars Foam Applicator pads that TJ has shown in his pics to apply it.

Agreed. The foam applicator pads are best for dressing. The microfiber just sucks up the products into the fibers, making even application harder. The foam applicators distribute the product more evenly without absorbing the product completely, making it easier to apply.

OK so you used this on the dash, but did you use it on the doors where the leather is? Also, that nice leather "brown" band under the dash? I understand everywhere else....

Or did you use something different for the brown strips on the doors and under the dash?

Yes, I do use it on the doors and the "leather" dash and door trim. I just don't use it on the seats, although you could without any adverse effects. :)

I just ordered some stuff off of this website. It appears that the company is going out of business with its "storefront" but is still managing the website. Everything is 50% off and lots of stuff that you guys use is for sale.

http://store.openroadmotoring.com/

I just bought some stuff.... well actually a lot of stuff that you all mentioned. They don't have the 303 so I'll try to find that somewhere else....

I did purchase the 303 Aerospace protectant but what about actually cleaning the object prior to applying 303? Whats recommended that can be found at the local autostore?

Vinlyx seems like a good product... its and all in one, but I've already purchased 303 from amazon!

A water based interior detailer can be used, on everything from carpet, to leather, to plastic, chrome and vinyl. I like the meguiars stuff, it's easy to find and not expensive, and smells great. You can also buy this in concetrate in gallon form and dilute it yourself. Saves a lot of money, considering I use a lot of this.

Yeah, Meguiars stuff is pretty solid. I find that the price performance ratio is good. I have tried more expensive stuff that you can find at enthusiasts websites like Autogeek.com, everything from Pinnacle to Wolfgang, to DP, at the end of the day the stuff is all pretty similar. I don't care for their leather products and some swear by really expensive stuff like Connolly's, but 30 bucks a bottle, I'd rather use Lexol or Mothers, or really whatever. It's not a Bentley for pete's sake.

Perfect! I'll see if the local places have it. I did buy the Lexol Leather Cleaner and Lexol Lether protectant but completely forgot about the rest of the car.

Thanks guys!

Well I got my box from the UPS man yesterday! Just waiting on a couple more to get my entire arsenal complete. I actually cleaned/detailed my wheels and tires yesterday with some of the stuff I bought.

Eco-Touch Chrome and metal polish

Forever Black tire dye (non glossy finish, but makes the tires look brand spankin' new)

The grit guard I bought worked wonders for the 5gal bucket and it left all kinds of dirt/sand at the bottom...

...the next step is getting out the foam gun!!! This should be fun!

...took out the foam gun yesterday and washed my car. The foam gun worked awesome and was so freak'n easy to use. I bought some DB foam gun wash and it worked great.

I used a washmit and sea foam sponge which worked great together. I also used a "waterblade" that I bought from Walmart that worked good when drying off the car. I tried using the waterblade on my girlfriends car (Kia Sportage) and it wasn't as easy. To many bump details.

All the microfiber towels I bought worked out great as well. Cheap ones.

For the interior, I used the detail cleaning spray and was super amazed by it. It worked better on the LCD screen than the expensive LCD screen sprayer I bought a couple months ago. You can spray it on anything and works great. I cleaned the whole inside with it for the most part.

303 Aerospace protectant is SUPER Sweet! It really brings out the black and my brown leather strip looks "smooth".

Thanks a lot everyone for your input. All the products that was referred to me have worked out great. With the correct tools and good products, cleaning your car is actually fun.

The next step is Liquid Glass. The weather looks crappy so it will have to wait a couple days.

Food Grade Silicone Spray TJ? mmm mmm good and slippery!

Yeah, it's just another way of saying, non-petroleum based. Petroleum based lubricants like WD-40 will corrode leather, wood, rubber, and shouldn't be used on or near those things.

Well I got one coat of Liquid Glass today and the car looks smokin'! I have the white Pearl and it looks amazing.... I could see how it would be more noticeable on black cars but I got a good deal on the stuff and it was easy to put on.

If the weather holds, I'll add one more coat tomorrow and try to take some pics. The best part about LG is you can get it on just about any hard surface and it will not stain or be a pain in the ass to take off.

For what it's worth, try : http://griotsgarage.com It was very rewarding to see all the exotic car owners giving my 4.6 blk/blk tech badged the once over. Then they saw the Hyundai emblem on the steering wheel.....oh well, they drooled anyway

New question:

A buddy of mine wants me to detail his car because he has seen how good of a job I've done on mine and all the great products you've all recommended.

I've only used liquid glass but I don't think this would be a great option for his car because of some paint wear he has on the exterior. I'm looking to used a wax instead with DA buffer.

My question is: Can I wax his car then leave it while I clean the interior? All work will be done in the shade and the temps outside have been around 60 degrees. I won't damage the paint by not buffing off the wax immediately will I?
