  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Did I get an okay deal? R-Spec

You're the final judge on the deal you received. If you are happy it is a good deal.

In the Washington DC area they are selling from $40K - $43K. Price depends on color and availability. Also as the year passes the prices are going down and incentives such as $500 cash back have come out. I know someone that just paid $40K in VA. I paid more but got the color I wanted back in March and am happy with the deal I received.

IMHO, I would say you got an OK deal at best. Also while demos can be a good deal; I would not want a demo of a performance car. Those could be some HARD miles as potential buyers test the cars performance.

The auomotive press considers the car a god buy at MSRP. In the end it sounds like you got the car you wanted for a price you were willing to pay. You're backed by the best warranty in the business and can purchase an extended warranty if you want more. Enjoy your R-Spec!!!

i never once said it was new. Another member mentioned if i got it new it was a good deal and I did not indicate in the initial post but once again it appears you are assuming that was intentional also.
You said in your original post that you bought a R-Spec (which means it has to be a 2012) and you asked us if the $39.5K price you paid was "an okay deal." But now you are saying that you accidentally forgot to mention that the car was not new, but a Demo with 5500 miles on it (or as you put it "kind of new")?

BTW, if it has plus-size aftermarket wheels (as in the pic), it is highly unlikely that it was a demo right before you purchased it.

Personally, I think that you got a pretty good deal, but there is always someone out there that may end up with a sweeter deal. Overall, I think that you did fine. As time passes, and new models arrive dealers will definitely be more willing to make deals.

Don't let Mark_888 get to you, I think he's suffering from OPD (Over Posting Syndrome) :p ...averaging about 2.9 posts a day for over 3 years !!

I have to agree with Mark. The initial post lacked some critical information, i.e.-that the vehicle wasn't new.

How can anyone give a meaningful response to such a post? I personally thought it was a new vehicle, otherwise, what's the point.

Most of that was during the 2009-2010 Suspension Wars on this forum. If you missed that, you can probably seen reruns on the History Channel. Most of the people who gave me (and some others) hell about our 2009 suspension complaints have since purchased an Equus (and some never even owned a Genesis).

I get what you are saying but again being new to posting, first ever post i have ever put. i did not intentionally leave it out. Simply stating you have no right to assume i was being an a$$ and for you to state i did not clarify specifics until later in the post... it was with in 10 minutes from my question. minutes from reading first response. I just would like to know why you are picking me apart? beings that i included further detail quickly not like I was trying to keep it a secret. I just dont get the rudeness i guess.

I am just tellling you what the dealer said.

In my last post (which you quoted) I was asking if it is your position that you accidentally left out the fact that the car was a Demo with 5500 miles. I asked the question because obviously that is an important piece of information to know about when responding to your question of whether you got "and okay deal". Do you agree that we needed that information for an accurate response?

I understand that. But give some common sense, and the fact that car salesman told you that (not always the most truthful people in the world), I was giving you a dose of reality, which is what I thought you were looking for when you started this thread.

I agree i lacked the common sense to include the specifics but it wasnt purposely. I also agree that the dealers are not the most truthful group of peeps. No argument there and i guess i deserved a shot of reality.

Heck, I dont really know their definition of Demo. So iniitially i am thinking it was a good deal but the more i thought about it i second guessed myself. car is only Kind of New and as someone else pointed out. God knows how hard the car was driven.
Doesnt really matter now but i sure did want do give them my thoughts when i go through my walk through if i did get pee'd on.

I think you got ripped off. Several people have posted that they got a new 2012 R-Spec for about $36K.

I find that impossible to believe...

Considering the MSRP is $47,300.00

Your not gonna get over 11 grand off on a brand new car

If the OP got it new for 40K - which I doubt

Then he stole it

I see them selling for 40K- But they aren't new - they have been either demo'd - or titled to an owner

this one was a demo with 5500 miles. Did come with aftermarket wheels and some type of secondary alarm. Nothing special, i think the only diffference is that the alarm will activate if some one hits the car or is attempting to break in.

the op knows he got a great deal, and is just gloating in this thread and trying to show off. So i figured i would be just as much as a jerk as he is.

wtf???

Wow....I mean here in California R-Spec goes from 45k and up!

Hi all this my first post and after trolling for a little while and learning all I could about the R-spec I am pulling trigger on one tomorrow. I found several with in a hour drive of my house in the $41,xxx range but kept looking thinking I could do better. Finally after a few weeks I was able to find one at $39,488 plus tax/tags. Its a couple of hours away but at that price I called and put the deal together. I am blown away by how much the prices vary from full blown sticker to what I am paying and everywhere in between. Anyway thanks to all that did not know they were helping me and keep posting.

Mark, I am not saying you are cheating exactly, but you do have a head start on the rest of us when it comes to being a jerk.

Yes, you post a lot of helpful and insightful info, and I'm sure it is appreciated.

But what's with the snotty, sarcastic responses to people looking for help?

To be fair, I will say you used to be a lot worse. (Back around when your posts were in the 2000's). But you can do a lot better. Work on that attitude.

Possibly he is envious of 100 hp more? ;) Or, did he get raped on his V6?
Haters are gonna' hate.... :p

To the OP: welcome to the forum, and congrats on a great car!:welcome:

I am glad I live in South Carolina, got our new R-Spec in June for just over 42K, but the best thing here is South Carolina, is we have a law that caps the Sales Tax at $300. So not being in a Sales Tax Free state, this was quite a significant savings.

I was comfortable with the price, it was just over 5.5K off the MSRP, and the dealer Tinted the front windows, included Wheel Locks, and the Trunk Mat.

That was over 1K in extra's, so I was happy.

The good thing was they had 3 on the lot at the time, and Mid Summer is a good time to pick up, that model year, they are starting to itch to move, they need to get 2013 inventory in soon.
