  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Did your insurance company have 2019 G70 in their system?

So a couple questions:

Did your insurance company have the 2019 G70 in their system?
Which insurance company?
If they didn't have the car info, what does your insurance slip say and are you on temporary insurance?

For my story, I am with TD Meloche Monnex and they told me the VIN was invalid and had no info for a 2019 G70. They issued me a temporary (2 week) insurance coverage and the slip says "2018 Genesis G80 Sport 3.3T 4DR" with my actual VIN.

I had a minor issue getting my plate transferred at the registry since they said it looks like I don't have proper insurance on the car. They warned me that I may have issues if a cop pulls me over.

Now a few days before my temporary insurance expires, I called TD back and they have said the VIN is still invalid and will have to issue another temporary insurance card.

Also in the meantime I am dealing with only an "estimate" of my actual insurance cost which may or may not change.

Considering the cars have been out for almost a month now, I am surprised this is still an issue and wondering if it is just me or if others are having the same difficulty.

I got mine through Challenge insurance (Aviva)
They had issues until I gave them the VIN then they were able to find it all. For me they were a lot cheaper then TD...may be worth a call
My registration shows wrong though. They show it as the Elite not the sport. They said its based on the VIN and can't be changed to Sport so hopefully that never causes me any issues

The registrations for my demo fleet all say ELITE or ADVANCED but trim names shouldn't have any negative effects should you be pulled over.

I'm also with Meloche Monnex. Just called for a quote and they didn't have it in the system and weren't able to give me a quote. Hopefully they can figure it out before I get my car!

I don't know how it works in Canada but in the US, if you have an existing policy with a company and trade that car in toward a new one, the new car is covered for a grace period, I think it may be 2 weeks, even without any paper work being filed. I'm not sure if its the underwriter or the agent who extends that courtesy but I've been told repeatedly by my agency not to worry about having all the insurance stuff in place before I pick up a new car. I suspect that if you have an ongoing relationship with an insurance agent, they'll take care of you if anything goes wrong and will work to get everything straightened out as soon as possible. Still, I understand the concern about your agent not being able to find the VIN in their system. A bit worrisome, even though I'm confident it'll all get worked out.

A long time ago (1972?) when I had my first sports car, A state trooper pulled me over for no apparent reason. The car was only a couple of days old and I didn't have any of the paper work completed yet. He told me that he pulled me over because new cars get stolen a lot and he just wanted to be sure I was the owner. Pretty much all I had was my license, my insurance card listing my previous car, and the receipt for the new car. He was fine with that. I told him that other stuff was in the works and he understood that it would take time. This incident didn't involve insurance specifically but I mention it to illustrate that offical-dom recognizes that paper work can take a bit of time when a car is brand new and they seem okay with that.

We have a grace period on the plates, but not insurance. Dealers have to see your insurance before you leave, but they don't care about plates.

That would vary by state. In CT you are not getting the car without the okeydokey from the insurance. All it takes is a phone call and in minutes the dealer has what he needs. The insurance company will give you a grace period but not the DMV.

If I’m not mistaken in Illinois you have 30 days to add a new vehicle to your policy. The DMV does require an insurance policy number in order to register the vehicle.

In Ontario you have automatic coverage for 14 days equal to what is on your current car

So I had kind of forgotten about this, but I had called my insurance company in late May looking for an update and they told me:

"We still don't have your VIN in our system, but we can change your 2018 Genesis G80 Sport to a 2019!!" Woohoo! lol

Anyway, I got a call today that the VIN is now in their system and guess what, the G70 sport costs $62 more per year to insure than the G80 sport. On the bright side they won't charge me the extra for the last 3 months, only going forward. haha

It does kind of bring back memories that when I went from the 335 to the 535 that my insurance was virtually unchanged (can't remember exactly) and they told me at the time that the 3 series was considered sportier and therefore higher risk and also the larger and heavier 5 series was expected to better protect passengers from injury both leading to lower rates, offset by higher price. I assume similar thing between the G70 and G80.

I use RBC/Aviva and no issues, they were able to properly pull it up as a G70.

I imagine they are all good now, but back in April/May they didn't seem to have the info in their systems for the car.

SD is the same with the grace period. Dealerships are open Saturdays, insurance companies are not. It helps the dealership out a bit because if someone has to wait on insurance to okay it, that gives them time to back out of the sale.

AMA had it. No issues.

I use The Personal -- 2019 G70 with all available trims was in their system.

(Also, I recommend them -- rates are very competitive and service is excellent)

One insurance company that brags about low rates quoted me $700 more than what I've been paying. I won't mention their name, but the commercials are shot with the Statue of Liberty in the background. They should put a mask on here and replace the torch with a gun.

I got a followup call from them. The agent said the website does not have all the discounts he could get me.

Yeah this is ridiculous, i have 3 quotes
1800ish a year
2400ish a year
3600 a year

WTF !!! The company at 2400 can drastically drop the cost of my wifes vehicle and house but my G70 goes up from 1800

I am with TD Meloche Monnex and pay $1519 per year. $53 of that is for occasional business use.

Oddly enough it was about $100 higher than the G80 sport that they first started charging me for (which actually costs more to buy). And about $200 more than my 2016 Jeep Grand Cherokee High Altitude which actually cost slightly more when new. Obviously the sport is costing a bit more in the G70.

That said, insurance is hard to compare between different insurance companies yet alone different people because of all the variables and options. I do have 2 vehicles, and RV and a house with the company and have been with them over 15 years accident free so I like to think I have decent rates. I also have the professional accountant discount with them. You could try claiming you are a CPA as I don't think they ever checked the validity of my claim lol:cautious:
