  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

DIS disappointment

One of the main issues I’ve had with my R spec is the DIS, Bluetooth/NAV system. I’ve not used it too much since I purchased the vehicle, but decided to familiarize myself with the functions and plugged in my IPOD yesterday. Another huge disappointment. We have 26 movies stored on the IPOD. When we take a trip, it goes into my shirt pocket vs. lugging a bunch of DVD’s around in carry-on or luggage. I am sitting at the Aux screen and I get sound track but no picture. I thought I must have done something wrong. I finally break down and get the DIS manual. There it is-page 127, ”The system can only access audio files on an IPOD mobile digital device. Picture or video files cannot be accessed”.

Are you serious? What in the world is Hyundai doing. I can’t think of a decent aftermarket double DIN DVD replacement unit (Alpine, Kenwood, Pioneer, Jensen, JVC) that won’t show video files. Additionally most of the aftermarket units are far more user friendly. There are so many things to love about these cars-I can’t find the words (a few expletives come to mind) to express my disappointment.

I did try to research and could not find any articles (or threads) that discuss this issue in detail or any possible fixes. Considering how far technology has come in today’s automobiles, there is in my opinion no excuse for Hyundai not to have a state of the art entertainment system.

Yeah unfortunately the DIS and related technology appear to be more relevant for 2005, not 2013.

I wasn't aware that any stock USA vehicles allow the front video screen to play while the vehicle is in motion. Which ones do?

My apologies-I should have clarified the issue more completely. There are ways to bypass DVD players so video can be watched when the vehicle is moving. Manufacturers set up the units so DVD can only be accessed when the vehicle is parked with the emergency brake set. I was parked with the emergency brake applied. I can watch video in my other vehicle with an Alpine unit.

Why are there so many negative comments and such hatred about Hyundai audio/video? Ipod video is not DVD quality and not worthy to be displayed on the Lexicon system.

Video In Motion has a device that fixes the lock out. Under $300 plus about $100 to install. Many folks on here have threads bout the VIM. FYI.

Download the video(s) to Jukebox, get a VIM hack, and now you have movies on the go. I did install a lock pick in the SUV, but really only use it to input NAV destinations on the go. The little one watches the RES in back with no need for the lock pick anyway.

For me the convenience of having a small unit that will store that much material is worth it and again the video quality is sufficient for my needs when traveling. DVD quality on such a small screen in a vehicle with lighting conditions that are not optimal is irrelevant to me. If you want theater experience, a person can use a home theater system with big screen, AV receiver etc. I am speaking about traveling and the versatility of storage.

Video while in drive is not allowed to be availabe from oem. It's U.S. federal law. It's a safety issue, so while driving people will not watch a movie when texting.

Are there people who sit in parking lots and watch videos?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
I never tried it, but am curious if the 3.5mm jack next to the USB in the center console is audio/video, or just audio. If it is A/V, then an iPod video (older unit) outputs both audio and video through its 3.5mm "headphone" jack.

Or, it may be possible to get a cable that will do the same via the 32 pin connector for newer units?

I feel your frustration; the Pioneer flip up deck in my Dakota R/T will play video off of iPod no prob.

Video while driving is not the issue. Page 127 of the DIS manual. The system does not decode video-period.

Mine plays video, I think you are saying it will not play ipod format video.

I would expect the factory installed system should be as state of the art as any other system in the market. My comments are irrelevant to watching a DVD and driving. Whether an individual wants to install a relay to bypass the parking brake system to display video while driving is their choice. Many people do things while driving that are legal (cell phone for example) that cause serious accidents (rear end are #1 in my county) and illegal (texting) or a variety of other activities that take your attention away from driving, which is a full time job. I want Hyundai to develop and install a user friendly and state of the art unit that smokes the competition. In my opinion, this system does not accomplish that task.

The entire system is dated. Doesn't even do Bluetooth audio streaming like my Hyundai Elantra loaner car does. o_O

Yes sir-IPOD video as stated in my original post

I got you from your OP, it's funny how people own a somewhat expensive car and can't read for sh*t or have to question why you would want to watch a movie. I've had my car for a few years and just recently put a dvd in it to see how it looks and i can say you arent missing anything the pic quality is garbage.

To be fair, Apple has jacked around their video format a couple times over the last few years. You have to have a hdmi in to really have something universal. I think calling the system 'not state of the art' Is a bit excessive. My other car is a 11 MB GLK350 with the COMAND package and this is surely an upgrade from it.

Again I ask, which other manufacturer's OEM vehicles play video on a front display?

Cell phones, texting and now we have idiots watching movies while driving. How long before someone is killed by some idiot watching a movie?
